Why? Gundogan has started EVERY Champions League game this season. He’ll start this one too.

However, looking at the players he's been using, or hasn't, and that Cancello has put in a couple of good performances at LB, I now think he'll set up with

I really hope he doesn't start Garcia in this one as we need central defenders to match Benzema's physicality and Fern had a very good game against RM when he came on as sub in the first leg
I would rather see Bernardo playing than Gundogan because of his incredible energy in closing down
If we shut down their aging midfield we'll coast this game, but they are clever and cunning

Watford team starts for me with Sterling in the right and Foden on the left. Not sure who should partner Laporte. Dinho is a candidate due to experience and his solid nature. Garcia, although still inexperienced and raw, he’s also one.

Besides, Laporte’s CB partner, the players that played against Watford will help with energy, and pressing properly. They also passed it around more quickly as well.

I'm not sure you can look on these post lockdown games as anything other than keeping people fit, and doing what we need to do, he's played Stones and Otamendi twice, but the last couple they haven't got much time (thankfully).

Against madrid we'll need a bit more steel defensively, so I think given our advantage, that Pep will be more circumspect in that area, I'd rather play Bernardo for his energy, but he's not in great form (though I thought he played pretty well at Watford), so I think Ilkay will get the nod.

However its 2 weeks away, so anything could happen yet, so who knows.

Agreed. It’s obviously not an issue but the choice for me would clearly be Jesus over Sergio coming off an injury. Especially given that we’re ahead in the tie.

Wonder if he will go cagey for this maybe stick Gundo next to Rodri? They have to come at us if the ball breaks and De Bruyne will kill Madrid on transitions if he has Sterling to aim at.
