Kova / gundog come on . . . we conceded 2 goals. Along with Bernardo they can be first to say farewell in summer as it stands. Then there is another bracket of 3 - 4 players who for me are 50/50 to stay. It's going to be a big upheaval guys . . .

This is the Eddy save from Bellingham a few mins after. Rico caught ball watching in the first image, he runs towards the ball, unaware of Bellingham who runs in behind Rico and Eddy makes a good save. He’s obviously still learning, but he needs to work on his positional awareness. And don’t start me on that attempt on the 3rd goal, yes, it was an awful ball from Kovacic, but Rico WTF were you doing?

Similar feeling to when pellegrini took us to the bernabeu and all we needed was a goal to reach the final and we couldn't even muster any efforts at goal and went put with a whimper. Don't mind going out to a better side as long as we gave it a go, can't say we did tonight.

On yhe bright side, I'd sooner go out now than dump madrid out, go out to somebody inferior in the next round anyway and pave a clearer path for the dippers or arsenal.

All eggs in the fa cup and top 5 basket now to salvage some success and respectability from a dreadful season.

Agree with the crux of your post, but we hit the post (Fernandinho) in the 2nd leg. If that had gone in, we’d have been in the final 2016

It's the unforced errors - carve a lead out of stone then present two gifts - one results in an Mbappe slice going in - does our heads in. And, and I know I'm in a minority, if we'd won and needed a draw in the second leg, we'd be vulnerable (obviously) but it's still all there to play for. Draw tonight and need a win over there - not impossible but a huge ask. Win by one goal - extra time and pens - I'll take that. There is a reason for Madrid relying on a play-off to get through - it's because they're not as good as last season despite having a youthful megabucks side. They were there for the taking tonight and Erling did what he's the best in the world at - what is it 49 Champions League goals in 48 games? Any side with an in form Erling is a nightmare threat and he's coming into form. We just need the players around him to provide some service - we're talking about players in their 30s - not players in their 50s. Mix it up, through balls and a few over the top lobs for him to run onto. Over there, I'd throw everything at it, risk it all - which is our mantra anyway - we do risk and reward. A one goal lead is a slender lead in this tie. Despite the gifts wrapped with ribbons and a cake on top, but for Eddie (mistake aside) the tie could have been over. It's very much still alive. Doku would relish running at the Madrid backline, Jack in the middle. We are City, we are underdogs, we still have players to hurt Madrid, albeit we lose some resilience to attacks. One last hurrah for some of the old war horses, but hopefully not all of 'em will be needed.
 
A bit of perspective. If we do go out of the CL next Wednesday, it won’t be due to tonight’s game; in reality it will be down to our performances v Feyenoord, Sporting, Juventus and Paris SG… not forgetting a truly boring, passive offering v Internazionale, thinking a draw will do. Our performances in the group stage were appalling, careless, sloppy and unprofessional.

Even if we get a couple more points out of those games, we’re not playing fucking Real Madrid at this stage.
 
When you see how well Alvarez is doing at Athletico you have to say Pep made a massive mistake binning a very useful player and not bothering his arse for 6 months to replace him

if we would eliminate Real they could say oh City had it easy we were missing our full defence line of very experienced top class defenders like Alaba, Rudiger, Militao, Carvajal...
I am sure they would have preferred Brest or Celtic instead of City in this round with these injuries.

but instead of excuses they will go through and may even get to semifinals.

will be really strange to watch last 16 go ahead and City wont be there. didnt happen since season 2012-2013 wow.

the horrible league stage results, Pep still couldnt find a way tactically to avoid the fucking collapses.Feyenoord, Sporting Juventus, PSG, Real...

we have been really bad in CL but its because most of our opponents are actually decent sides. we only beat Bratislava, Prague and Brugge. anything more decent and we suck ass...

tactical, mental, fitness issues. huge rebuild needed, and the staff needs a revamps too, Lillo, set piece coach, GK coach, and physios can be thanked for their contribution imo. what if the staff needs new blood just as much as the playing squad. we used to change a lot in the staff mostly assistant managers during the years didnt do too badly for us. mostly because others were poaching our staff like the set piece coach at Arsenal was here before? nobody fucking taking our current set piece coach dont worry. maybe Greggs to do a sausage roll every morning. who is stealing Lillo from us?

Absolutely delighted! Honestly never thought we'd be in this position! I thought Haaland would destroy Asensio/Tchou. Still all to play for in leg 2.
 
Full time felt uncanny to me and it wasn't cos you can never write these bastards off for the sheer amount of times they churn out industrial undeserving wins. It was 2012, at the bernabeu, with Tranny making it 3-2 when Vinny ( inexplicably) ducked out of the way. We have since utterly trounced this lot emphatically. But tonight made over a decade ago seem more recent than two years back.
