Real Madrid post match thread

Realistically we're out of the C/L.
Equally so, we're a extremely unlikely to win the F/A cup with this squad.

IMO - the quicker we're out of both the C/L and the F/A cup the better - as that will allow us to focus solely on a top 4 P/L finish - and I think we're capable of top 4 in the P/L.
Not sure you understand what “extremely unlikely” means.

These teams are nowhere near as good as Real. Real's front 4 is the best in the world. 3 of them were in the top 6 of Ballon d'Or last year.

We have at least 50% chance to beat these teams, if Pep plays the players who deserve to feature over some of his darlings.

I agree but these type of teams are the ones who cause us problems. Although we won and created chances ourselves against Orient in the last round they constantly caused us problems with a simple long ball over the top.

You know what? Stranger things have been known to happen. The Chavs weren't favourite for any tie in the knockout rounds in 2012, but they plodded their way through to an unlikely CL win.

I'm not suggesting anything of the sort will benefit City, but in life you just never know. With the squad needing a rebuild & the new players needing to bed in, we need as many games as possible to allow for this.

The biggest challenge is next season. Qualifying for the CL is crucial & I can't see it coming from winning it this season. We've a massive upheaval ahead of us, & we've no one to blame for this situation but ourselves.

The minor flaw in your admirable positivity ointment, is that we are shit. Or at least we are playing shit.

What is very, very disturbing is the number of games where our heads have simply gone in the last ten minutes… five minutes… sixty seconds. We've never seen that from this team before (although we have, lamentably, against Real Madrid, several times, going right back to Roberto, and that heartbreaking defeat in September 2012). I don't pretend to have the answer to that. Pep, presumably, will have to, given what he's paid. And I presume he'll work on that in the rest of the season and the close season.
Let's be honest - he's had since November to work on it?

I'm not a 'Pep out!' advocate, but it really needs somebody he respects to have a word with him, and for him to actually react to the patterns that have been clear for all to see for gawd knows how many matches now...

I just want Khusanov starting at theirs to break that odious Cnut Bellingham in half

Wouldn't say that. We could stumble over the line in the FA Cup if we get a few more handy draws, but having said that a final against the likes of Newcastle or Villa would be 50/50 at best for us.

Just have to wait and see what happens next week, we all know when City are on song they can beat anyone, cut out these bad mistakes at the back end of games, sick off seeing it. I don't think Ederson's heart is in it anymore, he wanted to leave in the summer and was persuaded to stay, Ederson has simply been brilliant but the time has come where i think we need a new keeper, also the right back position, why did City not go and buy a right back in January i don't know especially with Kyle Walker going out on loan. I like Rico Lewis he's a great player but not at right back, nor Nunes, needs sorting. Just looking back at some of our seasons where we just battered everyone, now we are hanging on (mostly), If i was in that dressing room my message would be.... Get A Fu.... grip.

Ha ha... Let's just say we're just not at levels we're used to. I think we're far from shit... Lol :-)
OK, we've both known real shit over the years of course, and yes we are nowhere near that. But how many top flight sides lose 5-1 to Arsenal? We are pretty bloody rubbish at the moment.

It's not just the stupid mistakes and lack of backbone either. It's the tediously slow and frankly boring build up play that leaves our opponents half and hour to get organized. We look like we couldn't score in a brothel sometimes. And then when we get turned over, well, you know happens. This is NOT a winning formula, Pep. Are you listening? It isn't.

Tbh, this is one thing that continues to perplex me. Pep is still setting us up positional & tactically for the City we were, not the City we've become. Perhaps he doesn't want to change things & add to the tactical confusion if the injured return & we have to revert back yo the formation & tactics which have served us so well.

As for the tediously slow build-up, I suppose that's what comes with having a midfield with a combined age of 97. Can we actually help it nowadays?
