Rebuild

There's been a number of people on here saying that City don't need a rebuild in the summer but it's becoming obvious that we need a sizeable overhaul if we are to reach the level of Bayern and Barca.

How many first team players do you think we need this summer?

Personally I think we need six. Kompany can't be relied on. Zab and clichy are probably only good enough now as squad players. Dinho is the only central midfielder who is constantly good enough to be in a top team. Silva and de Brunye are good for the advanced roles but probably leave us lacking pace in those advanced positions so really we should be rotating them. So that's probably a starting right back, centre back, left back, two central midfielders and maybe an inside forward away from a top top team.

Realistic? Possible? Or unnecessary? What's your thoughts on what we need to do this summer?

Who knows.
But, we have ONE true world class player in Sergio.
Then we have KDB, Sterling, Fernandinho, Hart, Otamendi, Silva and Nasri who certainly are good enough to play in a multi-trophy winning team. Though maybe not all of them are guaranteed to stay on once Pep gets his say on the matter.
That's seven players, and a full squad consists of what, 20-25 players?

Silva is world class when he's on his game, he's had a few injury niggles this season plus our movement going forward is so pedestrian he often has to slow it down and pass backwards if Kun is not in space. Pep will get the best out of him.

Think the full backs and centre halves are our main concern. Full backs are getting on a bit and our latest centre half purchases have been very underwhelming to say the least.

At least three defenders, one top midfielder to replace yaya, hopefully a striker to replace bony

I went to my first game in 1975 ish. Won't count the game when I was 5 years old in 68 as I was bored shitless and would have rather been at home watching TV. All I can remember was my dad and much older brother going on about Lee, Sumerbee, Bell, Young, Booth,Doyle, etc. As I grew up watching the likes of Barnes, Owen, Power and believe it or not my altime defensive hero at right back Kenny klements, I couldn't help noticing the lack of enthusiasm for these new kids on the block. Ok they weren't world beaters, but they were replacing what we had. Not great to say this, but it's that time again. Kun, Kompany, Silver, Yaya are injury prone or just tired at this level. Don't be surprised if Pep makes some off the wall decisions by moving out all of these players for the future of our club. I think personally he will. Hurtful to us as fans or not. Me on the other hand, I think I'll man up and trust him and not winge over what was.

There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth among the fan base whatever happens, that's the way it goes with us blues.

I do agree there are tough decisions to be made and I personally am going to find it refreshing to have a manager who won't be afraid to make them. Bring on the next era.

In many ways it will be like the last 8 years never happened,

I agree no one is off limits and that's what Pep will get paid for.

Some have to stay on next season and maybe some beyond that but I wouldn't be surprised if no one on our roster is still with us when he finishes his three year stint.

In many ways Barca and Bayern were a dress rehearsal for the next three years.

His most difficult challenge to date but in many ways what will turn out to be his most rewarding.

Better prepared for longevity and more competitive against the best Europe can offer and none of this losing to Liverpool , Arsenal , Leicester , Spurs , West Ham etc home and away FFS all in the same year.

Yes I know we got a massive 2-2 at Upton Park and we ain't lost at home to Arsenal yet but again MP will out thought by another manager past his use by date in the premiership for sure but you know what I mean.

We are a side that lacks pace , lack belief, lacks physicality , lacks motivation , lacks work rate and the list goes on.

That happens when you recruit poorly and you have a manager who no longer should be at the club.

I think I heard we'll have 12 players over 30 in the current squad when Pep arrives so its definitely time for a new era.

The age is a factor but more so the mind set , career stage and time at the club that and what they still want to do themselves that come into play.

Vinny , Zabba, Silva, Toure , Hart, Kun our spine if you like will be dismantled over the summer.

At least 2 possibly three will go and Vinny one who I think unless Pep wants to shift him on over this summer will have in in reserve if needed off the bench when he is available to play.

It's the best Vinny can hope for given his injury record which is only going to get worse.

Captains have to be on the park not in the grandstand.

Its high time for the massive overhaul the club should have done much better under MP over the past two seasons.

We tinkered and it cost us big time and Bony , Delph maybe even Oti were poor buys and have decreased in value since we bought them possibly significantly.

I would have no qualms if MDM, Sagna, Clichy, Kolorov , Fernando , Bony , Delph , Nasri, , Mangala, Nava even Fernandinho left in the summer.

DS may join them.

Difficult to shift 12 on in one hit but it has been done before and at worst we have to move these players on by the end on next season.

Jesus Christ. Rather than effectively every player on the side departing, wouldn't it be easier for all of us if we kept the club intact and you quit following it?
