Why is it that the left always instinctively look to someone else to cure all ills? We have a tax rate currently at 45%. Michael Caine said once that he had no intention of paying any government more than he can get, is that an obscenity? If you persist in taxing more, there becomes no point in earning in the first place. In the 60's we had a tax rate that went into the stratosphere, around 98% at one stage thanks to Harold Wilson and co, every fucker from the Rolling Stones to British Oil magnates fucked off and tax revenues plummeted as a result.
It boils down to envy, which as quoted on here, is a terrible thing.

Didatic, as Rascal seems to be the only one left fighting a lonely cause I will ask you what the point of posting those pictures is. If the guy with the plane played for City would you have a different attitude and not post that one? If Roberto Mancini is snapped pouring a glass of bubbly from a bottle costing £2,000 would you mind?
Bearing in mind everyone smiles for a photograph what exactly is wrong with any that you posted. Are you unappy that they seem to be enjoying wealth?

Quoting JKR is irrelevant though mate, she's very much in the minority but we are moving away from the point that the 50 to 45% tax rate change doesn't come close to affecting the kids in the photos.

I know it doesnt affect them, so the change only served to make Osborne look silly. Which is fine by me. It was pandering the far right of the Tory party and was not about "all in it together" politics.

And it also says much about the super rich when JK Rowling is in a minority doing what she thinks is right for her nation. It just shows how much our richest people are out of touch with the lives of the 99%. Tax aviodance should be a bigger issue than it is, it is morally unjust

I think I posted some of the Sheiks cousin one on a yacht and one in his private plane. I do not care what the very rich do because I know that they do not pay taxes either way. Rascal does not seem to understand that the high tax rates affect the rich. The photos I posted are of the super rich. Those whose parents own studios, casinos, sports teams, islands etc. Not some athlete who earns a good wage for 10 years and then his career is over. These are the off spring of the creme de la creme and it is they showing us how they live. I am simply presenting it here in the hope it sparks debate and from the responses its obviously everyone has their own opinions.

Those in the £500 mil bracket and up are simply too elusive for them to pay taxes.

Maybe, just maybe your left wing ideology died out with Dennis Skinner and Michael Foot and the rest of the country don't want it back.

Im sure there are some who envy wealth. I dont and never have. I am happy with what i have which is not much but i can afford a pint and can feed myself. I have never craved wealth, im not materealistic in the slightest. But whenever the left advocate redistribution of wealth through the tax system im told its jealously blah blah.

The left look to society as a whole rather the individual to create a better society for all. Socialism is inclusive and believes that together we can create a better world. The right believes in individuality and the notion that the individual make the nation better for us all through its trickle down economic theory.

I believe humans work best when they work together.

Fair analogy, succinctly put. I still can't help but see idealism in it though and I suppose we can go on forever debating; it's this difference that makes life worthwhile, if one can empathise with another.

Maybe so, but that does not stop me holding my Socialist beliefs and believe me i have mellowed with age :)

One nation Toryism is also dying out as the Tory party tack to the right to counter the rise of UKIP and become engrossed with Tea Party fanaticism. I could understand one nation Tory values, the new tory party which is more right wing than Thatcher i just dont get at all. It is anti society. Also after 13 years of sometimes wretched New Labour government, the Tory party could not win a majority either. There is no love of the Tory party in huge parts of the UK as they are still seen as the Nasty party.

Maybe a time will come when the mould is broken and those like me who have been disenfranchised will have a party that speaks for me.

I do believe we should try to move towards a fairer society and we should help the less fortunate. Education and health should be the main stay of our country. Where we disagree is (I think) how we generate the wealth to allow us to carry out our obligations and more importantly how we distribute our wealth but I hope for more discussions with you on the subject. Empathy is the key word there i think. Human beings naturally have empathy for each other because we are sentient beings capable of rational thought.

Empathy is often claimed as a subject owned by the left, but i dont believe that to be true. I do believe for instance that IDS genuinely believes his welfare reforms will help people return to work. I may think his policies are misguided at best and hurtful at worst but i dont doubt his intentions. New Labour genuinely believed that there deregulation of the City would lead to a greater prosperity for all, again i think they were wrong but i dont doubt there belief in there ideas.

I believe in fairness, equality and equality opportunity for all. I dont believe that the rich should be punished punitatively for being wealth creaators and i dont expect that the poor should suffer hardship when often it is of no fault of there own.

What is undeniable though is that the differential between rich and poor has increased expotentially. The poorest in our society in these austere times are struggling whilst the rich can spend like shown in the OP.

As previously said i have no problem with the rich, i am not jealous of wealth, but i do abhor privilige. Wealth per se does not exclude empathy but i would agrue privilige makes it harder for them to do so.

Fantastic post Mr. Mist, nice to see people able to disagree yet do so without resorting to name calling and attacking each other personally. Left v Right, rich v poor, we can all get along in perfect harmony and I'm sure this was the message that the op was trying to get across !
