There were two TV films/plays by Arthur Smith which were excellent:

'An evening with Gary Lineker' was a good film set against Italia 1990 with a daft assortment of individuals on holiday in Ibiza watching the Germany V England game in the Hotel.. Paul Merton was in it and played an antagonising dolt. Clive Owen played the straight guy. Cant remember Caroline Quentins role, but thoroughly enjoyable.

'My summer with Des' was set against euro 96. It starred Niel Morrisey as an out of luck fellah in London. This was a good drama. The plot was similar to any of Nick Hornsbys early books like Fever Pitch or High Fidelity.

Out of luck he gets to bang Rachel Weisz in that film . I wish I was down in luck that much

-- Fri Aug 23, 2013 10:23 pm --

Anyone mentioned 'A Captain's Tale'? It's about West Aukland, the first team who won the original European cup and the reason Juventus play in black and white. Cracking film, it's on youtube.

The 2 escobars - so good, you watch it again!

Pelada - also one of the best footy films/documentaries I've ever seen.

5 English lads work their way through the USA , Mexico and South America , showing their football free styling ( juggling ) skills in an attempt to meet their hero Diego Maradonna , excellent true life , football documentary / travelogue type film .
Well worth a watch and just for good measure theres a cheeky scouser doing what cheeky scousers do best , ie : looking after numero uno and ripping off his travelling companions
