Only Preston in the VERY FIRST season scored more goals than us in the first ten games - their record over 10 games was:

No, not made up bollocks.

"Avg" in old league tables is NOT the average of goals scored per game.
Up until the mid-70s, goal difference as we know it now didn't exist. They used to work on "goal average" which was the number of goals scored divided by the number of goals conceeded.

So, 38/8 = 4.75.
