Red & Black is Back?

Actually as far as I can make out, this started as a discussion of the red and black stripes, and then moved on to a discussion of the two types of sash ! Anyhoo, for what it's worth, I positively hate kits with sashes, whatever the colours involved. So I'll bow out of this one.

I know... I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking Gav should be appointed as an in-house designer for City.

Haven't bought a single City Nike item since they became our producer and all my match tat is looking old now.

I'd buy Gav's stuff right now if it was in the shop
It's been pointed out on here that to design the kits, Gav would have to be employed by Nike but surely we design our own t-shirts, scarves, hats, flags etc. Get him taken on City - the man is a genius and is very likely to have one of his creations made permanent in the near future. I'll post back when it's sorted.

The white kit with the red and blue sash and the blue one with the red and white sash were both first used in 1972/3. I think the white one came first, because we presumably wore it in the 1972 Charity Shield away to Aston Villa. We used the blue one with the red and white sash as a third kit, but against teams who wore white, mainly, I think (we definitely wore it at Leeds and Spurs). That 1972/3 season was actually the season we wore four kits, because we wore the previous season's red and black away to WBA, where neither of the other away kits was deemed appropriate.

The next season, we reverted to the red and black stripes and stuck with it for 3 seasons, presumably because the two sash kits were Malcolm's design (he pitched up at Crystal Palace and guess who, within a year or two, started playing in all white with a red and blue sash on the shirt). It was in the summer of 1976/7 that we first wore white with a red and black sash. As someone says, there were one or two early performances when we wore it with sky blue shorts and socks before they introduced the black shorts and socks that were specifically designed for the kit.

We used the red and black sash kit for the league cup tournament away in the 75/76 season and teamed it with blue shorts and socks after that point

thinking about it....a sky blue and white sash on our all dark blue kit would liven the job up a treat....just a thought

and back to the milan kit....

From memory there was a poster in the topical times ? Football annual of all four kits probably about Xmas 73/74 ?.
Bet some one on here has still got it

I wouldn't mind seeing a nice maroon (my favourite City away colour) sash kit with the sash being white and yellow (that darker gold-y yellow we had on the Umbro maroon kit) on the main maroon background, maroon shorts, then yellow socks that have a maroon turnover.

It's a shame we don't have adidas (it's a shame we don't have them instead of Nike full stop but...) so they could do a nice maroon away kit with three yellow diagonal stripes like on the coat of arms.

I also wouldn't mind seeing an away kit that looks like one we had in the early 60s:
Yellow shirts with maroon trim, white shorts, maroon socks.

change the title of the thread to Red and Black Stripes are back, otherwise anything Red and Black will be discussed.

Favorite away, always will be....

Takes me back to when i started to go to games in the late 60's and my first ever trip to Wembley with my long departed Dad....

Sky blue and white (plus maroon and sky blue socks) = home
Red & Black stripes = away!

Traditionalist - you betcha!!

Sorry, I'm just going to come back in on this one. I miss maroon in all our kits. Used to think that one was really great. As I remember it, the maroon was just a trim at the top of the socks, right? Used to ponce around in front of the mirror, wearing the full kit, thinking I was Mike Summerbee. Then I'd get out on the local park and realize in the first ten seconds that I was going to have to die and be reborn in a parallel universe for that to happen…

Given the international flavor of branding these days, I look to the dark blue and orange of the NYCFC shirt as our "change strip" for next season. Clearly, dark blue is the new "third colour" (after sky blue and white) as it pops up as at least a trim colour everywhere in kits now, so I expect City Second Kit to be more like those colours.

Ah the red and black striped kit that's what got me supporting City in the first place ! I am not from Manchester, and it started when I was eight and joined the local cub scouts because they had a football team this would have been early 1970s ,well they played in the city away kit of red n black stripes ,badge centre of the chest . it looked to an eight year old very daring and different to other clubs so that was me a city fan . now I am.not gonna claim that I was at York away or was there at Wembley for Gillingham but that's how I became a city fan simply down to the red n black striped away kit and a badge centre of chest !! I always say that it's not how you got the call to be a city fan it's that you got the call .

I used to play in red and black striped away kit at 2ndary school, and sky-ish blue home, and often wore my long sleeved umbro City shirt ( diagonals down the sleeve) as we were often lacking complete kits.
I'd love the Red and Black vertical striped one to make a return, or the diagonal striped one, keep kits referencing our history, not whateve Nike give us.

I like the red and black kit but in recent years no manufacturer has made a decent job of it. Umbro did the Spider-Man job on it - that was truly awful, reebok got the stripes too wide, Le coq sportif got white between the stripes - which were too narrow and then latterly we had Dennis the Menace sleeves - it's hard to have much faith in Nike getting it right but here hoping for a classic with black shorts.

I prefer black and scarlet. Calling Vinny K as Captain Scarlet sounds pretty good too.
Good shout, never had to utter the word "red" in association with our club again then!

It's very very difficult to get the most disgusting colour known to man right!

My Grandad used to refer to the away shirts as "black and someone's washed some pink shit into the white stripes of our kit" [I realise that pink cannot run into white and create such a deep colour, but I think my Grandad was a wise man and will never question his logic]
