Ref for Everton

His club affiliations are in some doubt. Grew up in Ashington, near Newcastle. My nephew was at school with him... seems to remember him being a United fan. He was in the Newcastle youth set up though. He did get into refereeing very young though and became more neutral apparently.

Hart should have walked for this, luckily Oliver bottled it.

His dad Clive Oliver was a very solid football league referee. Not sure Clive made the Premier League or whether, in fact, he was too old or decided against going full time because of his age and work situation but he was a decent ref in the FL.

He really doesn't! Well his restaurant doesn't.

I'm not surprised the scousers are alarmed at Manchester referee Taylor referring that game. Very odd appointment in the Richard Scudamore theory that the PL needs United!

You've jinxed it now. Guaranteed a dodgy last minute penalty against us.

Ah, but you are forgetting that Oliver doesn't do the 'controversial'! He will have decided by Thursday who's gonna win and the only pen coming anyone's way is if a defender jumps up, catches the ball under the bar, and runs up to him shouting "Pen, ref, pen!"

Have heard all the stories about Taylor being a Rag but over the last 3 seasons he seems to have reffed them 6 times in which they lost 3.

Surprised they didnt fly in Walton for a bit of fun

Christ, I'd almost forgotten about him. Seemed to get a disproportionate amount of City v Everton games, and was awful in every single one.

Glad that Taylor's appointment is coming under some scrutiny though. I don't actually think he's that bad a referee, but you shouldn't have someone from Wythenshawe officiating either Manchester club.

I remember when we beat Liverpool a few years ago, and Brendan Rodgers was furious that Lee Mason (from Bolton) was allowed to ref the game. Claimed that he had given everything our way, although most City fans would find that notion laughable given Mason's past record with us.

Had to laugh at this one on the BBC...

Taylor lives six miles from Old Trafford, which Hackett believes could lead to allegations of partiality.

"No-one is questioning his integrity," Hackett said. "But what if something goes wrong? It would be intolerable."

Taylor has no United ties and supports National League North side Altrincham.

Also noticed in that BBC article that Clattenburg is only 4th official at a game this weekend...

Not had a game since the Telegraph exposé. Has he?

Come on guy's don't you know that there is a conspiracy against us by the FA and the refs that's why we don't get that many pens as oppose to the rags and Liverpool. They don't like us breaking the monopoly of the so called big 4. Just look at it since we broke the strangle hold of the big 4 it has been only us and Arsenal that have stayed there. All the others have missed out on the Champions League at least once if not more than that.

Remember his final game as a ref, he requested Everton v City.

After watching him do our games over a few (too many) seasons especially the Everton games there's no way anyone will ever convince me he wasn't bent.
