I'm one of those anal old buggers that keep an eye on the time it takes for the ball to come back into play after it has gone dead. Yesterday was probably the worst for time wasting since David Moyes, together with Peter Walton, rolled up with the Everton team.
Goal kicks: average of 25 seconds, from the time when the goalkeeper first touches the ball to actually kicking it. The shortest yesterday was 18 seconds, the longest 47.
Throw ins: average 20 seconds from when the (first) player picks up the ball.
Corners: see goal kicks.
When the team is losing, however, it is asap.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. When the ball goes dead, the clock should stop, as in other sports. When play resumes, the clock starts again.
The argument against that is that it would take forever for a match to finish. I disagree. Even the most simple footballer and manager would soon realise that each half will have 45 minutes actual playing time, and time wasting will have no effect on the time played.
However, the spineless bastards who manage the game will never consider this, as there would be no Fergie Time for the favoured clubs. (I have not forgotten 93:20 by the way!)
It works in other sports, so why not football?
