Ref for Villa

Is it me or are they all getting worse? Does anyone have any ideas about improving the quality? Is it that nobody wants to do the job so we're stuck with these dregs? Should they import refs from the continent like players? Though the UCL refs seem to be utter shit to me so that probably won't help. Do they need more money to make it more interesting to people? Hook them up to some sort of electric shock treatment so that every time they make a shit call we can give them a zap from a wifi connection in the stadium?

Today's ref must have been his twin brother. How Kolorov got away without a booking for that one on the touchline early doors I will never know - even I would have booked him.

Excellent yesterday .

No needless bookings , and thought he did very well.

Didn't notice him , and he let the players get on with it .

We usually berate them week in week out for being absolutely dog shit , so credit where its jew

It was worse than the one he got booked for later on. It wasn't the most difficult game to referee but that wouldn't have stopped Foy a couple of seasons ago.

13 - Unlucky For Some

English Premier League referees should be selected from a wide group of individuals.
They are not.

There are only 17 currently active PGMOL Select Group (sic) referees officiating at EPL games.
And, of these, 4 refs have only had one game apiece this season.
So 13 referees have covered 94% of EPL games whereas in the German Bundesliga, 23 referees are used in an 18 team league.

13 referees is too small a group and is far more prone to corruption.

Additionally, one individual selects every single appointment.
Just imagine what would happen if a bookmaker or an insider trader were to gain control of this one man in the most liquid betting market on the planet.

Oh, hang on...
