Ref Watch

thought the ref was very good in the 2nd half, less in the first but i thought he reffed very well in general. Should have sent Kimpembe off though. yes the handball penalty thing was not a good decision.
Foden and the pen were bad. He was guessing. Most other things he did well.

Not often we say it, but thank fuck for VAR. If that pen had stood then god knows how the game would of changed. It was an awful decision as it was nowhere near his arm. Fair play to the ref though, thought he handled PSGs antics pretty well on the whole.

I wonder what is going through Taylor's mind, if anything, as he makes the decision that Sterling wasn't fouled. I wonder if he is concerned with Sky forensically examining it and finding there wasn't' sufficient evidence of a penal offence, or did he have the idea in his head that he wasn't giving another pen, come what may, or one so near the end of a game that could have handed us the title. The foul on Sterling was more of a pen than the one on Jesus, and that one made it into my database of stonewall pens. The thing about Taylor I notice, once he's in ref's garb is, is the sheepish, shiftiness!

They bottled the decision
My ERO was explaining the lack of a positive VAR response by way of suggesting that they aren't gonna look at every thing in the area. If that is the case then it is wholly unsatisfactory, as that is what VAR is meant to do. VAR should have bellowed down Taylor's earhole, as his fuckin' eyes weren't workin', that he needs to award the pen, no matter what the outcome, and no matter how near the end of the game it is.

Or go to the monitor. Won't be the first time he's fucked us over against Chelsea.

Whichever way you look at it that was a stonewall penalty. Zouma made contact at least twice from behind and prevented Sterling getting a shot away. So Taylor is either incompetent or crooked as is whoever was sitting behind the VAR screen. There was a lot at stake for both teams and the result has been manipulated.

This whole ‘clear and obvious error’ by the ref is such a load of nonsense.
When it was introduced I thought the purpose of VAR was going to be to get correct decisions on incidents that happen during the game.
Turns out they’re so concerned with undermining the on field ref that they don’t get involved with decisions that the ref makes that are marginally wrong.

So what’s the point? And why would a ref feel undermined over something that he might not have seen properly? Does he think he’s a robot? S
Shame because I think VAR could be great but the way it’s been implemented is shambolic and needless.

In fact, the video ASSISTANT referee is presumably doing the same job as the ASSISTANT referee. The assistant referee makes decisions on behalf of the ref so why can’t the video assistant do the same.

I agree with Pep, no doubt in most people’s mind that it was a penalty, apart from Neville. This is a man who will scream ‘On the edge of offside’ or ‘Ooooohh, that’s a penalty’ when it’s anything for his beloved club but when it’s the likes of City, it becomes the opposite. Carragher does the same.

We know that the broadcasters have a direct feed to the VAR and hear what is being discussed, I just wonder if the VAR has the same feed to the broadcasters which gives them an insight into how it is being depicted?

With some of the decisions we’ve seen it definitely seems that the broadcasters are having influence over them.
