Referee Kevin Lynch reveals the ‘subtle bribes’

To be fair, he's mostly talking about his experiences of Italian football in the 1990s, which we now know was stained by match fixing, bribes, and all sorts of corruption. And then he says they've changed rules so that clubs can't give gifts out to referees, so things probably aren't the same.

And given what people say about City and Michael Oliver...

If you are taking bribes in european games then 100% it's happen in england too
So there are many dodgy games from the past to say otherwise and Liverpool had many games vs City that question was ask, 1981 League cup semi final ?

Have to say, I find the disparity between the views on social media that we've paid Oliver off, and on here (namely that Oliver is the devil incarnate) hilarious.

Which one is true, though?
Michael Oliver, Darren England and Dan Cook were all invited to referee games over in Saudi Arabia and UAE. PL refs have since been banned from doing such a thing which makes it look worse because it suggests to those with a conspiratorial mind that something dodgy may have been going on.

It’s likely there was absolutely nothing in it and it wasn’t all to curry favour with them, of course, but I can see why fans of other clubs think it looks dodgy as fuck.

Look; if I wanted common sense, logic and facts, I'd go somewhere else, wouldn't I?

I once went to a talk with George Courtney. He was, basically, saying the same thing. He reffed the 1st leg of a semi final involving Napoli when Maradona was there. As soon as he got off the plane was being offered all sorts to ensure that the result went Napoli way. He said he didn't get involved.
A week later the 2nd leg was played and a Romanian (i think) was reffing. It got to the last 10 minutes and Napoli needed 2 goals to get through. Lo and behold, they got 2 penalties and went through.
Within a week the ref announced his retirement and shortly after moved into a lovely mansion in Naples.
At the time, probably 15 years ago, George was a UEFA delegate and he claimed things like this were still going on, particularly in Eastern Europe.

It's seems apparent this kind of thing was occuring. Didn't Forest get an apology 20 odd years later for being robbed in a match by a corrupt official. I think it was against Bruges?

And the famous Derby County game where Cloughie was shouting it from the rooftops

if that's subtle, love to know what his view of a straight bribe is?
When he said about Keith Hackett clearing the shelves, 100% they knew it was a bribe ? Nobody gives you stuff for nothing, they want something in return. It's clearly cheating and knowingly so.

How far back can a crime be brought back into account

Kevin Lynch once sent off 4 Bristol Rovers players in the same game...I was at the game.It was mad.
