Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

The inconsistencies.

The "justification" of wrong decisions.

The control over game outcomes.

The lack of transparency.

The lack of recourse for teams affected by the above.

Seems that the backend of this season has seen major strides in the above.

Pigmol meets the "americanisation" of football perhaps??

If they start to predetermine the outcome of single games, it wont be long until championships and cup comps become predetermined.

I hope something gets done before its too late.

The villa sending off, no problem with it per se but direction and distance were way further out than ours in the final. They are just making Gillett’s look more and more like corruption over incompetence when using as a bench mark for dgso decisions.
When the var assistant was a Palace youth player you know we're getting nothing

VAR powerless. He’d blown up before the ball was in the goal.
That was the narrative quickly put out by PGMOL to the media but there have been numerous occasions when VAR has got involved after the referee has blown his whistle not least when United got a decison after time had been called to end the match. PGMOL interpret the rules differently to anywhere else in the world. They bend the rules all the time.

The rules...

A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when:
  • the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save
  • holding the ball in the outstretched open hand
  • bouncing it on the ground or throwing it in the air
A goalkeeper cannot be challenged by an opponent when in control of the ball with the hand(s).

I think the ref. called it wrong because I don't think Utd keeper was in control of the ball under this definition.

However, Villa played an awful game and Emery should be receiving a lot of criticism for very negative play.

No mate. There isn’t a VAR anywhere in the world that has ever adjudicated on anything other than violent conduct, while the ball is not in play.

It’s not narrative they’d have wanted to put out at all, to be fair.
