No chance of ever changing the state of refereeing in the Premier League.
A player can have retrospective action taken against them if the powers that be deem fit, and that in itself is a lottery.
There is however no channel to take action against shit referees as they work like a secret society with everything done behind closed doors.
They know that, whatever clangers and cock ups they produce, they will be out there refereeing the next round of matches.
I know every club moans about referees but I think we more than most should be first in the complaints queue.
Rugby Union and League do far, far more to protect players. Weekly reviews of matches, big decisions and retrospective action, even if the ref gave a punishment in the match, are commonplace.
Likewise the referees have far more involved assessment, and if they're not performing then they actually get dealt with, and even lose their premiership accreditation.
Obviously on top of that is the general respect to refs in the game (albeit I wouldn't want the stoppages that have happened with video review, which have increased because of refs not wanting to make the wrong decision, but it can be handled in football the way Germany is doing it, rather than the corrupt whateverthefuck going on in Australia).
Obviously kicking players isn't allowed in rugby, but stamps happen and lead to automatic 6-8 week bans. Other dirty play has seen 18 month bans for diving, 50 week bans for gouging etc. In general dangerous and reckless play gets punished far more severely.
And while there are arguments about the state of union and league refereeing at the moment, there are far less mistakes at the top level week on week than the premier league, in which the refs are, simply, shit.
