Referees/Officials Thread - 2023/24

Can't blame referees entirely, but something needs to be done to stop players feigning injury to effectively slow the game down when their teams are under pressure.

We also need to have a word with ourselves about obstructing the keeper/defenders at corners to the extent that the referee has to stop the game and intervene. Has happened in recent games when we've had momentum and it's always the same culprits.

Extend the time they have to stay off the pitch eg 5 mins and include any player who gets treatment by another player (cramp)or the ref stops the game only for the player to make a remarkable recovery

All these suggestions are great apart from the fact you will have no choice but to include genuinely injured players in them.

DeBruyne gets taken out in the 85th minute by some clogger and he has to sit out the rest of the game while the culprit gets to carry on clogging.

Yeah unfortunately so but ultimately the idea is to stop the cheating nothing is perfect A few seasons ago there was a directive that a player injured which resulted in a booking for the offender didn’t have to leave the pitch maybe that could be reinstated?

Bottom line mate, you can come up with as many ideas as you like but the only way gamesmanship is ever going to be significantly reduced is if managers were to collective say to their players… Right that’s enough. Let’s just get back to playing football.

But that’s never going to happen. In fact the exact opposite will always happen. No matter what well intentioned changes they might try, the clubs will immediately be putting their heads together to try and find ways of exploiting it to their advantage.
