I'd be astonished (I mean, that would be the least of my emotions) if after what we're seeing over in the US we as country somehow voted this rank amateurs in (powerfully bank rolled, but for the main part utterly devoid of anything approaching seriousness).

I recall when Trump and JD Vance et al bullied Zelensky in the white house and I noticed a few memes/AI vids being shared around by a few Brexit supporters I'm aware of. These were the ones were Zelensky lamps Trump (as if he were minding his own business, asleep on a train....).

Gave me hope that a vast amount of us actively dislike that over here.
 
It wasn't a fringe event - it was an anti-vax nut job on the main stage telling people that the Royals cancer was caused by vaccination - they are going down the MAGA route now and even Tice looks uncomfortable trying to defend them

I think thats where he will start squirming. As far as I am aware registering a property in someone's name is kind of like the registered keeper on a V5 document but there are implications. This involves a legal process called a Transfer of Whole Registered Title which you would submit to the Land Registry potentially requiring a Declaration of Trust to formalise your beneficial ownership so there is a process for that.

However it seems "she" bought it for cash it would spark an Anti Money Laundering investigation - she would need to provide bank statements showing recent savings or income , documents proving a gift from family members , proof of inheritance, documentation from the sale of a previous property or investment documents, if the funds came from stocks or bonds. From what I have read so far the Land Registry reveal there is no mortgage provider involved in the ownership and her back ground reveals she was not a wealthy woman. So where did the money come from. As her "boyfriend" is Farage and he is wealthy it could be revealed he gifted her the cash but then it would have to be declared and he would have to live for over 7 years of IHT would apply.

So a number of questions should be asked of Farage

1/ why did you lie about the house purchase?
2/ did you declare the gift to your girlfriend to the authorities?
3/ can you show all the relevant taxes were paid?

The press can also investigate his numerous houses to see how they were paid for and whether all the relevant taxes were paid. Whats sauce for the Rayner is sauce for the Farage - he needs to consider what bandwagons he is jumping on.

If the primary purpose is to avoid tax, then it's straight up tax evasion. So for example, if you bought a house and registered it in your kid's name to avoid stamp duty, but then were renting it out and collecting the income yourself, then that would be an obvious case of tax evasion. If you buy if and your kid lives in it, then AFAIK that's fine, although it may be subject to inheritance tax if you die within 7 years of gifting it. I imagine legally speaking Farage has been well-advised enough to be covered, and he doesn't have the level of honour or shame to actually resign over something like this even though he's blatantly avoiding tax.

The other classic is the person who has loads of posts but none of them are about City. I get that some people like to discuss politics, but if you join a football forum and only talk about politics, there's something weird going on.

Having said that, to answer "why not here?" well how many people are really reading the politics forum on Bluemoon? If you were a political activist, would your time not be better spent on bigger platforms?

Thanks for the explanation, I knew somebody would have an understanding of this.

I thought it a bit weird that you can just buy somebody a house and not have implications. I was thinking of the money laundering side, a bit like the Russian oligarchs buying up property, and that’s why you’d have to declare it.

I wonder if Farage did?
