Refugee crisis

You must be watching dif pictures to me then as I've seen thousands of women and children crying out for help
I'd like to think our shithouse of a leader will intervene and help out, maybe even take the burden off some of these country's and open our doors to a fair few of them, Like now!
How many do you think we should take in & where do you think we should put them ? as there is a shortage of houses should we house them in tents like other countries are doing ? who is going to pay for there food .education social & health care, because if you haven't heard our shithouse leader has cut billions from the wealth fare system ,I to wish we could offer them something better ,but I feel there dreams will be shattered in the UK

can we put them in Surrey.

And people across the political spectrum must be incredulous to the short sighted and inconsistent policy of the EU and some of it's members.

Just FYI the stats from the ONS this week now show UK population is 64,643,599. of which 193,510 are refugees.
Further to that to slay a few other inconvenient truths the 2011 Census reported only 4.5% of the UK population is Muslim, 3.01% were identified as black and 6.92% Asian - white ethicity was 87.17% - hardly being overrun are we? Despite what the Mail would have us believe.

25% of new births are all to migrants http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/25-babies-england-wales-born-migrant-women-1435324

Wow thats a horrific site, ground my machine to a halt with all the ads!. And i've got quite a beast of a work machine.

More children are born to foreign-origin women than native women in the UK, and over a quarter of all babies in England and Wales are born to mothers of foreign descent.

quite a confusing opening paragraph, I assume they are meaning origin as being 2nd/3rd+ generation British but having some form of foreign origin vs people who are 1st generation immigrant? If so whats the time scale for "origin", 50 years? 100? 200?

So? Read the stats my friend - we are a long long way from being overrun by anybody or their offspring. The article you quote should be read 75% of births recorded in England and Wales are not to immigrant women. Don't believe the rabid right wing ravings of scare mongers foaming at the mouth - see the reply from grunge - the site doesn't even make it clear how far back their selective accrual of figures goes.

Two fisherman have saved a Syrian baby found floating unconscious in the Aegean Sea, in a dramatic video shown on Turkish television.

The fishermen came across the boy floundering in the sea with members of his family, after the boat of refugees they were on sank, according to The Guardian.

The men shout in Turkish as they spot the people in the waves, with one saying, "Faster, faster, people fell into the water, hurry".

One voice then shouts: "Oh my god, there's a baby too".
The tiny boy can be seen wearing a life jacket but floating with his face under the water.

The men scramble to pull him onto their boat, in footage shown on the Turkish TV news service DHA.

The captain of the ship told a Turkish newspaper he initially thought the child was dead.

When he is lifted up, the baby appears to be lifeless, but one fisherman shouts, "Brother, he's alive! He's alive!" after the boy seems to made a sound.

The boy, who has been named as Muhammad Hasan, was then taken to Kusadasi, a beach town on Turkey’s western Aegean coast.
He was reportedly taken to the city of Izmir, where he is said to be healthy. He was shown surrounded by with his smiling family in video shown on the DHA channel.

Beyond heartbreaking - I fear the media and public are just getting bored of these stories and right wing groups spreading fear about the migrants in hope people don't help and we just 'send em all back' - I'm paying monthly donation to Tearfund for this crisis. With winter coming up I hope more aid is given to help these people fleeing hell just trying to survive somewhere more comforting.

Hi, apologies for linking a shit site, I read the article and couldn't find it again so linked the first one from Google.
It is official figures though and was initally published by the ONS

The number is 26.5% of births were to mothers born outside of the UK. So more than 1 in 4.

http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/vsob1...nd-and-wales/2013/stb-births-by-cob-2013.html

Also reported was that the UK population will top 70 million in 12 years - that's a massive increase:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34666382

15 years ago this was 54 million - that's a 30% increase in population. How can we possibly sustain this growth on current infrastructure? The answer is we can't - more people require more hospitals, schools, roads, dentists, space, housing. Is this really sustainable?

We already have one of the highest density populations (267 people per sq km) compared to France (121), Sweden (24). Surely this should be a factor (along with affordability) when allocating refugees?

There is lots of interesting data in the report. Total Fertility Rate for different ethnicities tells a story in itself.

Yes but that means nearly 74% of births are to mothers born in the UK.

Your figures indicate that over a 27 year period the population would increase by 16 million. Not an unsustainable rate of growth and hardly out of kilter what is seen in most developed countries I wouldn't think. I don't see the problem being the growth its successive governments failing to prepare properly with investments in roads, schools, hospitals, dentists and most importantly housing !

Would you been in favour of say some sort of law restricting couples to have say only 2 children max , a bit like China ?

Bad day for Turkey really following the election results.. thankfully AKP didn't get quite enough seats to do stuff without referenda. Bad times ahead for that country I fear.. The same country allowing shit boats full of refugees to leave, sink and drown upon their shores. A change might have been good if only in that case.

Yes, sounds like a perfect world. We'll spend on roads, schools, hospitals, dentists, housing.. anything else? What should we cut to fund the investment? I'm sure there are odd bits like government salaries we all agree on, but funding on roads and infrastructure is an easy one to put off with every other area requiring funding.

This also takes a lot of time, it's taking 3 years to upgrade the M62 just to provide a motorway that will be just be about to cope with what we'll have on the roads in 3 years' time.

I don't think that's the answer, the reformations of the welfare structure will help so we are not paying ridiculous benefits to families with 10 children. The answer is all in controlling immigration while we are able to rebuild infrastruture.

If you read my post I am criticizing historic failings in planning and spending not suggesting its all gonna be fixed overnight.

Just to put things into further perspective Europe has been "overrun" by the arrival of 218 thousand refugee's this summer.

The EU population is 509 million people from what I can see on line - represent an increase in population of 0.000429%

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24583286 800,000 this year alone and that's just the ones they know about. On top of that are economic migrants from the rest of the EU, I appreciate the EU has a problem but looking at the population per sq k in this country the UK is far higher densly populated than others

The UN states 218k but even using your figures that 0.0011% or a smidge over one thousandth of a per cent increase in population. I am not saying do nothing about it I am saying stop scaremongering by not putting your figures into context. That rate is the equivalent of 510 arriving in the UK - even Cameron is talking 20k in 5 years mate.
