Regarding Kelechi and UEFA Homegrown Rule

Why would it be deemed a separate issue, if he had no work permit then he wasn't "eligible" to play, surely?

It's interesting that the wording in the homegrown rule is different to the 'B list' rule in that the homegrown rule states "registered" and the 'B list' rule states "eligible".

Eligible in the eyes of the FA / UEFA. We don’t know what that is and weather it requires a work permit. If it doesn’t and I suspect it doesn’t it would depend on when City got the paper work in to the FA. Nacho was first linked / rumoured to have signed with City in Jan 2014. The reason I suspect it doesn’t is transfers routinely go through without work permits being sorted, that would suggest to me that you can register a player first and apply for the permit second.

Just followed the link in P-Bs post and he was registered 08/01/2015. Full name Kelechi Promise Iheanacho. I guess that settles it. B list game in games in 2017 unless he gets on the A list before then.

Next season Denayer replaces Demichelis and Kelechi takes Demichelis' spot on the A list. Problem solved.

Thanks for the help guys, I get it now.

Looks like he won't be homegrown :(

EDIT: Or maybe he will because he qualifies at the end of the season he turned 21? Right, I'm still in the dark. I'm an idiot
As it extends until the end of the season when they've turned 21, he'll count as club-trained at the start of the 2018-2019 season.
