Simple question - Did he have money to spend? Yes or No

Not in his last season, wer had loads of injuries he was given no help.

No, hence 9th with no money.

Haha. The 2,5m for Phelan doesnt count then?

In Aug/Sept. We had no left back so needed one. We were crippled with injuries later that season, playing midfielders at centre back etc. Swales wanted him out so gave him nothing as the season went on.

He failed with 9th just like Sven did in his successful season.

I'm not disputing whether he did well or not I'm disputing whether he had money - which everyone can see, he quite clearly did.

Everyone has money, even Stuart Pearce had, just not enough at the right times.

The comments I was picking you up on were that Reid had no money which is clearly bollocks as he was close to breaking the british transfer record twice with players which as you say he told Swales to sign.

Appart from the record was not broken either time.

It was a world record fee for a defender

reidys got a monkeys head - no seriously i like reidy loads but have got a lot of time for horton, nice guy n still talks with great affection about his time at city and his great respect of the city fans

Reid had an obsession with re-signing Paul Stewart for silly money, I think £4m was mentioned!

Thankfully Swales put the block on that one.

Mel Machin had a fairly skillful team but it needed the tough tackling spirit that Howard Kendall quickley set about sorting. Peter Reid played his part in Kendall's team but he was a one trick pony. When he inherited a half decent team as player manager, he spent two years turning it to shit. Swapping Steve Redmond and Neil Pointon (who'd just been voted second in our 'player of the season') for Rick Holden was absolute madness. More insanity was then spending the total transfer kitty on Terry Phelan when all he had to do was sanction a pay rise for Pointon. The team at that time was crying out for a decent £2.5M striker. The Clive Allen saga was also mental, Adrian Heath scored one goal a season, while Clive Allen seemed to score every other touch. The "master craftsman".

Peter Reid was, and is, a prick who would have got us relegated. Theres no good in complaining when the money has run out once its spent. Brian Horton signed three quality and skillful players and the good times returned.... Beagrie, Walsh, Rosler..... I'd buy Horton a pint everytime I met him for those three. Class.
