Rekik

No doubt that it's good for him perosnally, but his contract's extension at the right time and a PL loan seem neither harmful. And in this case, it would be more likely to make more profit for the club.
If you look at how much he cost, it's nothing for a Premier League club. If they thought he was good enough, one of them would have bought him.

I like Rekik and wish he would play for City, i think he will come good but this deal does seem to be in the best interests of all. He will get the time needed at a good level and if he does exceed his potential he can always come back.

i dont think think it is as clear cut as Rekik v Denayer. There is also Facey who is in that age bracket and has come along very well since his run at centre back. Facey will be back October time? and he can cover for injury etc etc.

I agree with @Neville Kneville that there are going to be a lot of disappointed lads, many of whom would have pissed the grade a few years back.
A tough job has gone to a whole new level.

You would imagine that a year of being regular in EPL and some performances for his NT might have changed that, but we will never know for sure. But his value would much more likely to grow even if he didn't show that he was good enough for the TOP teams

I see a whole bunch of things in Rekik's game that imo would be a huge problem if he played for City, but as you say, years ago he would have played anyway, & if he got turned inside out by someone with a bit of pace, or outjumped for a header, it wouldn't mean we were any worse off, as the bloke next to him would be dropping bollocks every week, along with both fullbacks etc, & we would have nobody better than any of them. If he put in a decent tackle, he'd get a standing ovation, & over time, he might learn how to cope at that level & stop making mistakes, learn how to nudge people off the ball without getting penalised etc & suddenly we might have a hard case defender who knows every trick in the book (then he'd get tapped up by the 'big' 5).

Nowardays, he has to be mint to start with, or he costs us the title.

Not always so crucial in most other positions but at cb, it's almost like goalkeeper. Mistakes cost big.

In years gome by, we could have built a team plus a full subs bench from the academy kids we have now.

I think its a win win situation.
We have sold a lad, with 12 months left on his contract, for a decent fee,who has been judged not yet good enough to be a part of the squad. We have also inserted a sell on clause,to cater for the scenario that he improves enough to play for a club better than the one he is signing for.And to cover all bases.....we have also included a buy back option should he develop into the exceptional talent we require.

I personally don't believe he will be anything more than a steady, reliable, lower to mid table Premier sort.

Totally agree unfortunately the lad ain't good enough for were we are now as a club.

I can see this kind of transfer becoming the norm which will ultimately mean that the Academy becomes self sufficient.

We also got about £1.7m for the sale of Trippier to Spurs from Burnley.

Demichelis will leave next summer.
What happens if he's our best defender again this season?

I think he probably will leave next summer, but I wouldn't be 100% sure. He's proven all his critics wrong by turning his City career around, winning the league and starting in a World Cup Final and Copa America Final in the past two seasons. If he has another good year, I can see us offering him another 1 year extension and him being the 4th choice defender behind Kompany, Mangala and Denayer in 16/17.

Anyone followed his progress at Marseille?
According to Wikipedia he's had 5 appearances, but I haven't seen him play.
Just wondering how he's developing.
