At the start of the season, absolutely nobody knew what was going to happen to an English team that had won four titles in a row because not one English team had ever won four titles in a row. Until City did.

These are uncharted waters and we're the only team in a position to be sailing in them. If another team ever, ever wins four Premier Leagues on the trot again, they'll only know what to expect because of City's 24/25 season.

It will be at least 2028 before there's even a remote possibility of that happening. To be honest, it didn't really sink in at the time just what we'd managed to pull off in May, but it absolutely has over the last few weeks.

And, from our perspective as fans, surely these last few weeks should show that City pushing again to create history last year was nothing short of heroic. How did the lads find it within themselves to push one last time when they were (as we now know) this close to giving out?

We all know a rebuild is needed. This summer is going to be an emotional one with so many legends seemingly on the way out. But we know the rebuild will come and we know the lads will be out to prove themselves again for us all come August 2025.

Decades from now, footballing dynasties will have come and gone, but City will stand as the first team from these shores to ever win four in a row. It's likely, by the time we're all long gone, that we'll still be the only team to say we've done it.

Ride this storm out and keep the faith. We'll be back next year.

Love the positive thread :)

One bad season doesnt mean the end of an era .........look at the poor bastards today celebrating winning one game of football not a fooking title .............put yourselves in there shoes there season is more or less done tonight ..........win the Man City cup and thats it

This season reminds me so much of that season Liverpool had after winning the title.

Key player ruled out for the season in one of the opening games and a midfield whose best days are a distant memory. They got overrun for fun in midfield that year and once they’ve passed strengthened that area they began to rebuild.

We need to get some fresh lungs and hunger back into that midfield, prey for a speedy Rodri recovery and we should be back on top.

The attackers are starved of any chance and the defence deprived of any cover with this current midfield.

Have said the exact same.

Well said mate

It wasn’t that long ago the European football of any sort was a distant dream as was fighting for trophies of any sort. We will get it right for the start of next season when hopefully we will have less injuries, a new system and players who can run. End of an era but the start of a new one and one benefit is it may be easier to get tickets as the tourists will move to another club won’t they?

I thought there were some positives today. At 1-1 we had been playing the better football and Savinho was wonderful. Foden made a bad mistake but he had been playing well. We made a wretched start but that can happen.

We are in transition. We have some wonderful footballers, sadly we also have some ex-wonderful footballers too because it is vey evident that KDB's legs have gone.

Unfortunately, these sort of collapses have been happening for months, on a level we have never even seen when we were shit, and the fact that we have a squad of this value, experience and success makes it harder to take, not easier.

I'm sick of hearing people going on about them being above criticism because of all we have achieved. This isn't a blip or a bad year, it's a fall off a cliff. Certain players are completely spent and others clearly not good enough.

The lack of squad recycling and the manager's insistence that we operate with a small squad has bitten us on the arse too, not to mention the stubborn persistence in playing the same old formula despite it being blatantly obvious that the personnel aren't good enough to carry it out.

There really has to be a lot of soul searching done over the next few months, because collapses of the manner that we have seen in A Sporting, A Brighton, H Feyenoord, H Spurs, H United, A Brentford, A PSG and now today are just totally unacceptable at any level.

I agree with the original post and that this season is only to be expected. However the one thing that concerns me is we could and should have used it to integrate the nucleus of the next squad
Instead we have only brought in players who have shown they're not up to standard. Bringing players in January is something we've never done and shows that lack of foresight into the rebuild with or without the injuries we have had. We will also introduce new players in the Summer. A summer that will largely be spent at the world cup so come the new season I am concerned we will be going into it with the rebuild still in its early stages and next season could well be similar in catching the teams that are now a few years ahead in their development. As we all know it takes a long time to climb the ladder but its a quick roll of the dice to find yourself sliding back down the snake.

Amidst the doom, there is one shining star. I was on the verge of giving up on Savinho but this last few weeks he has put in a string of match-winning pefromances. He didn't deserve to be on the losing side today. I thought his play was brilliant and his role in Haaland's goal spoke volumes for me. That is a top quality player. When I say top quality, I am going to say that he is a player who is going to be truly world class.

But this result shows that we we need an XI, or a squad and it's not enough to have some stars. We can't keep playing Nunes at right back. And KDB has completely gone. He was awful when he came on. I have known that for ages. But we are going to have to replace him at the end of the season. Perhaps Marmoush will be his replacement. Marmoush was not integrated into the side but it is his 2nd game. It took Savinho half a season to find his feet.

I think City will have results like this whilst we rebuild. At least today we found a top class player in Savinho. We need to find a right back, and a creative midfielder. We may have that creative player in Marmoush.

I am a bit disappointed Pep hasn't given minutes to Khusanov because it's very clear that we will get heavily beaten if we play Nunes against Real Madrid. Top sides exploit your weaknesses. Arsenal allowed Nunes to have the ball today because they know he's not a right back.

This is far from falling off a cliff. No team can dominate the Premier League indefinitely, this isn’t Germany, Spain or Scotland and we were always going to have to fall back and watch others win the trophies while we struggle. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea have all missed out on CL qualification in recent years - and we are going to eventually. Maybe this year. Does it hurt? Yes at first, but eventually desperation gives in to hope and it’ll be us toppling whoever is the new English champions. It just takes time.

Now the rags, even that’s not falling off a cliff but it’s tantalisingly close.
