For anyone interested, here's my 1981 feature on Paul Power. Tomorrow Tommy Caton.

<a class="postlink" href="http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/sport/football/manchester_city/s/1420063_1981-fa-cup-team-paul-power" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://menmedia.co.uk/manchesterevening ... paul-power</a>

I've links to all the others (apart from corrigan which hasn't been put online yet) from my facebook page: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.facebook.com/GaryJames4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.facebook.com/GaryJames4</a>

On my first day at University back in 1980 I got talking to a Lad who was going to be on my course and he told me that he hadn't just finished his A Levels like me; but that he had just been " Let go" by City. I just assumed it was bulls--t, as you do.

A couple of hours later we are on a Bench in Picadilly Gardens eating Pasties and Paul Power comes up on my blindside and sits and chats with us for a while; asking the Lad if he needed anything, had his Grant come through etc.

Always, always comes across as a really nice bloke and a wonderful, wonderful player for us.

excellent piece Gary and am really looking forward to the Caton piece, his perfomance with Reid in 81 on the Saturday was magnificent for a couple of young lads..........

cheers

Agree with that. Sadly, Caton's profile cannot really cover much of what happened in the final (none of them do), but you're right about his and Reid's performance.

I really should write more on him at some point in the future. I made him one of the "Maine Citizens" in "Manchester The Greatest City" (there were less than 50 from all periods of the Club's history), but there's so much more to say.

Agree with all the other comments about Paul Power being a nice guy as well. Absolutely delighted that he did win the League title with Everton - just a pity he didn't get the chance at City.

Writing these profiles has been great and fits with my preferred approach - I love the stories behind the headlines and enjoy interviewing/quoting people.
