Your book is an excellent read Gary. As someone else in the thread said if it wasn't for Allison's ego that team would have won a lot more.

Either a lot of City fans who remember Joe have since died or this is a abysmal showing for one of our truly great managers.

I was brought up knowing about Joe, and remember when he died - such a great man, mum always smi!ed when mentioning him and always without fail said "he had a moon face" and if someone looked puzzled she'd follow it up with "a smile like crescent moon". Every time! The title (and cover) of Gary's first book on him captured it perfectly :)

l worry that although city do great at remembering Colin Bell, and Buzzer, and Franny, that Joe gets left behind - you never hear the hierarchy mention management of the past.

Joe Mercer's wife was named Norah. She was a familiar face at Manchester City games and known for her strong support of both her husband and the club. She passed away in March 2013 aged 93

She was interviewed before the QPR game by CityTv

I’d love to see the memorial on Joe Mercer way moved to the new museum when it opens with a statue of Joe with the League Championship built in its current place. Perhaps with Malcolm along side him.

Agreed
I’d also like City Square named after Joe & Malcolm maybe the statue could guard the entry to the square

Read "Football with a smile" a few years back. Great insight into a great man. A must read for all genuine City fans. Need's more recognition imho.

I feel a real deep connection to Joe, and have done for years. It’s not necessarily by the City connection, but from his time in the war years.

I am a serving Officer in the Royal Army Physical Training Corps, based in Aldershot at the Army School of Physical Training. It was captured in the book by Gary James, about his time in the Corps.

Gary visited Aldershot and dug into the archives. For me, to walk the gymnasium of Fox Lines where Joe would’ve trained as a Physical Training Instructor is quite surreal.

The grass verge at the back of Fox gym is still there where Joe was snapped with his various PT Course photographs

We also have a small museum with pictures of Joe in there.

I can take some pictures this week if anyone is interested.

It’s 57 years ago today that I went to my first derby match and it was Joe and Malcolm’s great team . Fantastic memories and the two blokes were so great together but like clough and Taylor achieved little on their own . I always smile when I get the tram to st. Werburghs road in Chorlton as that was where joe lived when city manager . I saw Malcolm around hale barns in his later years and its fair to say he was a sorry sight .
