Remembrance Day

I hope the scousers show some respect at the minutes silence later on. Though I can see them doing something to ruin it which will be swept under the carpet as usual.
Couldn't think of a worst cult of supporters to visit the Etihad on remembrance day.

Hopefully they show some respect for the people that gave their lives for their today!!!

Yes, went to my local one this morning. Mix of young and old there. Good to see some of the local school children laying a poppy wreath from their school. Shame not all our local schools were there.

There are no words to describe the respect I have for those who have donned the uniform and gone into battle for my freedom and the freedom of generations of Britons.

And, if I’m flying at 11am on 11/11, I always make a PA announcement on the aircraft so others remember, too. My Grandparents served in the war (Army, Navy & Air Force), my Dad did National Service (Air Force) and my wife’s Dad was an Air Force pilot.

Growing up listening to their stories made me so proud of them and in awe of their bravery and sacrifice. It makes me wonder what might happen today if faced with the same situation. Let’s hope we never have to find out.

All gave some, some gave all.

Respect to those who have served, are currently serving, and those who will serve in the future. Your sacrifice is appreciated and should never be forgotten.

There’s a group of us that go to either Normandy, Flanders or the Somme every year .
This year we went to the Somme for the anniversary of the start of one of the bloodiest battles of WW1 .
We went to the Hawthorn Ridge crater where one of the huge detonations took place , at 7.15 we took a tot of rum and at 7.30 we set off from the sunken lane and went over the top and walked upto the crater .
There were probably a couple of hundred people of different nationalities aging from young children to FOC’s like myself walking in the footsteps of soldiers in what must of been hell on earth .
After the service we were invited by the mayor of Beaumont to go to the village where the locals had laid out refreshments for everyone , they couldn’t welcome us enough .
We should never forget the sacrifice that they made .

Must have been an emotional day for all of you. Wonderful to hear that our French friends still recognise and appreciate the sacrifices that so many made .

Lost at least one family member in WW1 and saw a photo of him for the first time a few years ago , he looks so so much like my dad.
Those who survived often suffered terribly. As we know.

I went to the cenotaph at St Peter’s Square this morning. Even just the small one in Manchester was quite moving. God knows what the London one must be like. Although you’d never get anywhere near it with the amount of people there; I got a great spot today and saw the brass band playing Nimrod and the Funeral March band and the Scot’s Guards with their bagpipes and big drum from a great spot.
