Sounds like the detonator has misfired, that would cause a flash and a fireball, in 2005 the terrorists had plastic milk bottles filled with fertilizer based explosives packed into backpacks, they were quite small but in such a confined space they were deadly, if this container is full of more advanced explosive material the whole carriage and the ones either side would have been destroyed, you can imagine how many casualties there would be

If there was a big fireball like suggested, surely there would be signs of that in the carriage. Other than bit of smoke and flames, no signs in that carriage of an explosion.
