Results versus Performance

Random thought:

Saw some threads about how boring our style of play is and so on.. This then came to me, would you rather play like arsenal and end up with nothing or get close year after year but never win anything or play to win no matter the sacrifice i.e "sexy football", "Mancini tactics" or "boring football"??

Thing about football is that its a results business and how you get the results rarely matters.

Arsenal plays the most amazing football which is eye porn most of the time and City according to many here are as boring as a cemetery and yet we are in two cups and third place with a better defensive record.

What do you prefer??

There comes a point in every season where results are more important than performance and we are about there for me.I am pretty pleased on the whole so far but can understand why fans want a more expansive style,we get champions league its job done and a cup would be a huge bonus.
We get nothing and people will be well within their rights to say What could have been.

LOL!! Its actually true!! Theres just somin about them.. This is one of the reasons I think they will be shite once Fergie retires.

Having the same manager for over 20 years must do something to a club man!!!

Definitely this but I would also go for results above anything as know for sure the performances would be good as well a lot more than they are now.

We are just on the edge of some games that will truly tell us where we are at. We have won lots of games at home recently against poor or average sides and not played well doing it.

We have also failed to win away from home for a long time ( since Xmas) again not playing well.

If we carry on NOT playing well we will achive nothing this season beyond an FA Cup semi final So the next run of games will tell us a lot.Home v Kiev,away at Chelsea,Home v Sunderland,away at Liverpool and the semi final.

If we carry on playing as we have been this forum will be in meltdown.I just hope the performances pickup now so the results will be good.

Results is all that matters at this stage of the season, but if you don't play well enough you won't get them. We were lucky against wigan, shite against Kiev, and ordinary against reading, if we're similar to any of the above on thursday we won't progress, and we'll get shafted at stamford bridge.

In conclusion, if you play shite often enough, you won't get results, see united recently, 3 defeats in 5 games is no coincidence.

I suppose we did play ok but we LOST. So it's a month since a good performance and probably 2 months further back from that to another one!

So we are still 3rd having played mostly crap for 3 months.
