Not necessarily, Madrid could have been smug enough to believe they could get him next January when their team have settled a bit - and Chelski may not have wanted to get in to a bidding war and may still try and nick him with an eleventh hour bid! obviously this is all speculation.

Not needed, why sign just for the sake of it. We'd be hoarding talent then and then just end up with unhappy players we'd have to shift on the cheap this time next year. It's world cup year as well so more than ever players will want first team football. Can't see it unless something is happening with Robi which I doubt.

2 he will be down to the last year of his contract next summer and his fee will be reduced from a possible 60m now to 20m next summer or a free the year after !
