Maybe I'm getting cynical in my dotage, but I think there'd be a section of them that wouldn't. And it only takes a few dickheads in a silent stadium to ruin it. You'd get others laughing, then more booing them. The minute's applause would be the safer option.

I met him at Everton away a few years back when he turned up a little worse for wear with Danny Jackson.
Despite being extremely drunk, he was an absolute gentleman and was happy to chat to and have selfies taken with anyone including Everton fans.
He spent most of the game turning round and taking the piss out of and stroking my beer gut, much to the amusement of everyone nearby.
RIP Ricky.
