Absolutely horrendous news at just 46 too that's no age to die, always stayed up to watch Ricky's fights he was a top drawer fighter his fights were always entertainment, you always knew what you'd get from him a truly great character of the sport.
I think his standards dropped due to the weight fluctuations in the end but he was a normal guy, one of us who sadly had his demons my brother spoke to him one night for hours after meeting him, Ricky and him were swapping stories and was told my brother all sorts of mad shit in his life a few years back.
My missus also met him plenty in her younger years her grandad was actually very good mates with Ricky's dad, both of them were very dodgy naughty men in their younger years even though you might not think so to look at Ricky's dad, Mrs Crazy Skills grandad stayed a dodgy and dangerous guy in and around Gorton.
When her grandad ended up in hospital a couple decades back Ricky turned up to visit him one evening, he mentioned something to about wishing that he could just get out of here and have a curry to Hatton, who then found out how many were on his ward and later on turned up with a curry for everyone including the staff too.
I've heard some other stories about Hatton he always got on with fans and was friendly, as long as they didn't try and take the piss big time it's a really sad day for both Manchester and the boxing world.
It truly puts things into perspective about life it's really shit news pre derby but he'll want the show to on, I'm sure "there's only one Ricky Hatton" will be echoing around the stadium today and it'll be bouncing, hopefully it really adds to the atmosphere today and we can smash them in Ricky's memory.
RIP to Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton not just a boxing legend but a Manchester legend too, he might be gone but he'll certainly never be forgotten around here that's for sure.
