Im not someone who likes boxing so cant speak about his sporting achievements but Ricky, as everyone has said, was a champion for the club and a genuine good guy. Sounds like the demons got him in the end as he has spoken honestly about them in the past, Khan has hinted as much in his post. Speaking as someone whose niece lost her son recently I want to echo Khan's words.

I never met or knew the man. But for people who aren't big boxing fans, or may be too young to remember his prime it is worth stating what a excellent fighter he was and well in the pantheon of great British boxers.

He was desperately unlucky in the case that he shared his prime with forces of nature in Pacman and Mayweather. Idiots who don't understand the sport refer to these fights without understanding the enormity of what he achieved.

Victories over Tsyzu, Castillo, Malinaggi and the best of what was an exciting British contingent with the likes of Magee and Thaxton are testament to his skills. Ring magazine figher of the year an numerous titles back that up as well. One of the best body punchers the sport had ever had.

Dreadful news for Manchester, you hope that a minute silence can be observed as respect to his family and for the many great nights/early mornings he was responsible for. A Hatton fight was usually weekend of fun.
