I went to Queen Elizabeths so trod the same paths as you - Colin Crompton lived nearby too - Mainway was quite the place back then. Tells you something about incomes back in the day that Brian Kidd could only afford the less prestigious Kirkway to live on back in the day

This was a guy who'd beaten a legend. Beaten a great. Beaten the best pound for pound fighter at the time, yet he still knew what was important.

Hacks can try and ruin a hero. But the real truth will always out!

Smith, knew, not just the man, but the family. He's a proper journalist. A proper boxing aficionado.

To the world Ricky was a great boxer.
To us from Hyde and Manchester he was a hero.
Blue to the core, but with imperfections.

Ricky's death will save so many others, have no doubt.
I hope one day his family and friends will find solace in that.

The man was a true true legend, hards as nails, heart of gold as said previously mental health is shit and overlooked by many, just because someone has fame and millions in the bank, it doesn't mean they are happy, we should all talk more, and as men dont think we are weak if we do, as Ricky was not weak, he will be remembered for ever as a true gent and a legend in the ring
 
I remember he called in Mary Ds on a few occasions, always happy to mix with the fans and have his photo taken. No airs and graces about him, just a normal Mancunian done good
 
Not sure I've ever felt so many emotions for someone that I've never even met. When Ricky fought in the ring it somehow felt like he was representing each and every one of us.
When we were shit he was a world champion from a council eadtate in Hattersley. A proper Blue who was loved by everyone..........if only he knew how much.
As your looking down on us today Ricky I'm sure that your finally at peace.
The fanbase was his greatest achievement were the words he spoke some time ago. Somehow that tells you everything about the man.
Love you always Hitman.
 
He bumped into me once (literally) at a night club bar in Ashton. I turned around quickly and he was just stood there on his own holding a pint and quickly apologised. I said something like “I’ll let you off, but just because you’re a blue”. He laughed and we just chatted football for a few minutes. He was a world champion at the time. Seemed genuinely happy to be just talking to a fellow blue.

I think he lived with his mum in the mid 60’s and then moved to Maineway. I remember the Rolls Royce going up and down Rochdale rd
 
I felt the need to go down to the Cathedral yesterday, and I’m so glad I did!
I watched a few of Ricky’s fights live in Manchester back in the day, I was never really a big boxing fan, and I’m still not, but I was always a Ricky fan.
I’d seen him plenty of times at the ground over the years, and he always had time for a chat and a photo, no matter who you were. Just a proper down to earth lad.
The eulogy and what his kids said were incredibly emotional, you could hear a pin drop outside the Cathedral. It really hit home what he meant to so many people, not just as a boxer, but as a person.

Rest easy, Champ. Manchester’s lost one of its best.

I also bumped into him once,post match, in a pub on hyde road just outside Gorton iirc,name escapes me

I immediately recognized him and he stood there with a pint in his hand and a broad warm smile on his face. I know very little about boxing and didn't want to pretend I did so just smiled back and carried on walking ...a brief meeting with a world famous person who was humble and just enjoying the crack like every other Blue ,back in the day when we were rubbish.

RIP Ricky Hatton.
