Rico Lewis | Set to sign a new 5-year contract (pg33)

Definitely, but you watch the highlights as soon as lewis gets the ball Spence and Johnson initiate the press. Its every time lewis received the ball they press.
They played the high press all game and every defender was rattled especially Dias who was our worst player, tge back. line was targrted not just Lewis.

but suppose it's easier to pile on one lad, rather than blame some fan favourites who also had shockers.

He sees himself as a midfielder not a fullback - important not to overlook that and then remember who he has to compete against to get a place in our midfield. The inverted role he played yesterday exposed his serious defensive limitations although obviously not the only one to have a bad game. The faults are recurring ones with Rico unfortunately, too easily knocked off the ball and just not quick enough to recover.

Agree, although Dias's days as a fan favourite are over.

I'm Rico's biggest fan and I've been saying all summer we still need a right back who can defend better than what we have.

He's just not decent on the defensive end at this point in his career. And why we'd choose to go into next season relying on a kid who hasn't even fully grown and a failed attacking mid to help us out defensively is beyond me.

We have the funds. We have the need. It's bizarre.

When he plays we consistently get killed down the right, stevie wonder can see that.

no one is denying his frailalties, the issue is he is being blamed by some for yesterday when he was not the main defender at fault

I actually think you are correct. It is the system that Rico and others cannt play in..but whats easier...buy a player in the 3 months transfer window that can or change the whole system and therefore have to change lots of players....?

Rico was at fault..this cannt be missed...Dias was also horrendous yesterday and playing Reinjders with Cherki in the midfield exposed Nico (predicted before the game even started) as neither had the defensive work in them. The wide players in Bobb and Marmoush didnt support the fullbacks (look at how hard Kudos worked in helping defend against Doku when he came on).

The issue many have here is that the right back position has been a major issue even prior to walker leaving. Our back 4 was getting exposed with walker on the pitch as he no longer could make the recovery runs amongst other issues. ...

When his form/fitness fell off a cliff lots said Rico wasnt the player to cover for him in the team at that point....that has been proved correct. He has been an issue since day one repeatedly and glaringly so. Its the repeated defence of a player who blatantly isnt good enough if you want to challenge for top 4 - he isnt the only one - Dias is another along with a few others being moved on.

This componded by no Rodri cover (still), no physical driving force in midfield are other issues. Reijnders is great but not a physical force, Cherki will be full of flicks and tricks but will be in and out of games for a while. IF he and Reijnders can develop a nasty side then they could become elite but without that they are going to be in for a shock.

Overall our days of domination are gone. I can accept that, no problem, but we have to now accept the limitations of this team and be aware of them One of them is Rico Lewis and that needs to change if we are to be in the mix for any cups or titles going forward...he aint he only one however.
Can you name me a RB who currently plays inverted who we can sign, & could've made a difference yesterday & why?

Stones had to cover his defensive frailties on multiple occasions yesterday tbf
This! With him the CB have to look out for a much bigger space + they just can’t pass outwide right because of Rico turning inside. Rico + the inverted RB shit is exposing us but I guess pep won’t care. Doesn’t matter how often we lose at least he keeps playing his outdated system.

What pissed me off most yesterday was the simple switch pass in the first half to bobb not far from the spurs box that he made a complete mess of. The abs basics of football at any level not done.
