Just think with Bernardo, Akanji, maybe Nunes more likely to move next summer we will more flexibility with the squad to look further afield.

He's not technical, but neither was Walker. A full-back needs to be aggressive and quick, he has both.

But Walker was also able to make those runs forward and could contribute going forward, because opposing teams had to account for him because he could deliver a very good cross and could pick out a pass.

I'm not sure Khusanov has that in his game, which is what we need. Defensively, I think he would be excellent at RB. But is he technically good enough to go forward?

Not sure it is what we need, over the years we more often than not had one full back attacking and one inverting ,rarely even with Walker and Mendy had both getting up and down.Walker wasn’t that great a crosser either, very good on the underlap though.
With Ait Nouri on one side Khusonov could come inside and have the pace to get back across. Would prefer Livramento doing it,and he’s very suited to an inverted role,but if we can’t then Khusonov inverting or Nunes when we want a more attacking full back might work.

Walker couldn’t cross to save his life. Surely khusanov can’t be that much worse

We need a defender who can let his pace come to the rescue of our high line.

Walker's contribution higher up the pitch was not as prevalent as it could have been and certainly, his crossing was kept to a minimum because he was crap at it.

If we don't find a replacement for Walker's pace, teams will continue to get in behind on counters.

The way Khusanov handled Vinicius Jnr at the Bernabeu in that right back area was impressive.

Play Khusanov centre next to Gvardiol and the problem is solved. Dias is not in there on form over the last season and looks like he's running with an injury.

Our best recovery runs towards the end of last season were from Nunes. He improved with a more settled defence and if we want two attacking fullbacks, as we had for a fortnight whilst Mendy and Walker were fit, he'd be the right fit. If we want a right back who can defend as their first job, he's not

My observation would be that Pep and the coaching team see Khusanov close up and don’t seem to fancy him there. If they did, he would play. Also we wouldn’t be looking for a rb

He wasn't an excellent crosser by any means, but if you were an opposing team, you couldn't just switch off from it, by sheer virtue of the number of times he would be in position to put a cross in.

That's the question I was posing with Khusanov. Is he good enough where teams have to account for him going forward the way teams had to with Walker.

How about we instead sign a proper right back, who can play right back and is used to playing right back instead of plonking square pegs in round holes all the time?

We seem to specialise in playing centre halves at full back, & midfielders at full back -maybe its me but Im old fashioned enough to actually want a right back to play right back.

Absolutely, his technical ability is pretty underrated, as it wasn't his main strength.

Obviously he wasn't as technical as our midfielders/forwards or the inverting fullbacks, but he played within his skillset, so only tried what he was capable of and knew when to give the ball to someone more skilled. He understood the system well.

I want what works, if playing Khusonov there works then who cares what his main position is.
