Right back options

We need a RB with pace.

One of the reasons Dias was as dominant as he was on the right side of the defense is that Walker could make up for the lack of pace Dias had and could clean up the errors.

We saw Nunes at RB last year, and while it was acceptable given the situation we were in, I don't think we can get away with it and expect to compete for the title this year.
Nunes has his faults as a right back.

Opta stats show Nunes was second fastest player in Premier League last year !
So we already have an RB with pace who can also play offensively !!

Well liked by team mates too.

New coaches need to work on his defensive qualities which don't yet come naturally to him.

Yes he made mistakes in the derby but every player in the team made many mistakes last season. Key point is to learn from those mistakes and I believe Nunes will.

He reminds me of Paul Power who was a great servant of the club but seriously under-rated.

They do need to work with him on his defensive part. The biggest thing though is if they play him at right back they understand his weaknesses and set the team up to compensate in other ways. In the same way liverpool did with Arnold and will need to with Frimpong, and I’d say Nunes might be better than Frimpong.
Think in games where they want a more defensive set up we’ll see Lewis or a centre back inverting next to Rodri.

Difference between pace and physicality however. He has pace like you say but is terrible/weak at tackling, using his body and he dives in as well. Positionally all over the place as well (which at times leads to the diving into challenges). He gives us width going forward and can put a decent cross in however

I have been comfortable with Nunes as the starter since middle of last season.

Frankly, i worry less about his defense, his effort or his athleticism. Its hos offense that worries me the most. He isn't fully confident yet and often turns down lots of attacking opportunities. And his back passes can be sloppy. Other than.thoses 2 areas, i sees a highly competent RB

Personally I quite like Nunes at Right Back. Clearly I’d prefer an out and out RB but most importantly I don’t think the first game of the season is a good one for Nunes. The wolves fans were very hostile to him 2 seasons ago and he didn’t react well

I Think he used his physicality quite well at the end of the season, thats why some rely and trust in him upcoming season to make it for us

Khusanov can play against sides with very good left wingers. If we are going to be on the front foot, then Nunes can play.

Nunes gets a really hard deal from City fans. In his first season he was written off. Last season he came back very strongly. Why can't he play at right back? I would have launched that question into outer space had it been mentioned a year ago, but now I like Nunes. He's about the only City player who showed bottle last season and improved.
But Nunes is still a midfielder not a full back. I would be disappointed if Khusanov wasn’t played at FB, if we don’t buy one. He had Vini in his pocket against Real. Vini said Khusanov would become the best defender in the PL. What more can you ask for?

As more and more people yearn for a right back and compare every right back in the world positively with Nunes and Lewis, I find myself hoping that we do not buy one more and more. I can be a contrary MF, but I also dislike the disrespect some show certain players.
Good luck for the season ahead.

Don’t spunk money on a second rate player. We’re not the rags. £80m for Livramento or anywhere near that is absurd. The fact that there are not alternate RB’s in the market shows it’s not time to buy one. Pep won leagues with no LB or an out and out CF in the past just highlights his brilliance. Next year we will be in the market again and perhaps timing will be better to get a deal done. We’ve significantly invested already in the last 6 months reducing squad age. Most important thing now is to get rid of the “dead wood” that we no longer need. With RAN, Jimmy Etihad, Cherki and Reijnders that is already adding youth and quality.

With great respect, Lewis is not equipped to be our RB, he does not have the speed, strength or height needed for the defensive role in our set up.

What physicality?

He is so weak in challenges its woeful - not to mention his positioning.

He has pace I dont disagree but his strength is awful.

He maybe ok against bottom of the table teams but he isnt good enough against your top 6 or good CL teams.... RB is a weakness in t e defence that needs to be addressed

With respect, I disagree with much of the analysis of certain players here.
Full-back in our team is more of an offensive than defensive role and I refuse to rule out a player based on their physicality at the age of 20.
I happen to believe that he will be a better midfielder, but I think he can become a very capable right-back, just as he was when people here clamoured for him to replace Kyle in 2023/2024. It is the system that failed him last season, but that season is done.
Hopefully, I am right because it will be better for all of us for one of our own to succeed at the top of the game. Of course, if we buy a right-back of the highest quality, then I will be pleased and will support him, but I would also like Rico to succeed.
