Right back options

Class player...
Earlier in the thread you suggested Cambiaso and thinking further into this he seems to be an excellent option. He can play the inverted role that Pep likes and can play left back as well as right back. Can receive the ball on either foot, pass with either foot, shoot with either foot. Crossing is excellent, whipped, clipped or chipped. Good in tight spaces, is a leader and aggressive in duels.

He does play similar to Rico, inverted when playing on the right side and like Rico this can leave space behind. At 24 he will have more experience than Rico though which could help. Has an eye for goal and goal creation opportunities.

It seems clear to me that Pep wants 1 of the fullbacks to join the midfield in possession.

We have currently rotated between Lewis and Gvardiol doing it.

The other 3 defenders need to be warriors and stop counter attacks.

The only one who can usually stay fit are Dias, Akanji and Walker.

Stones and Ake are always injured.

I think personally, when we bolster the squad, we should buy 1 more of these "more attacking fullbacks" like Gvardiol to have 3 options for the attacker.

LB or RB doesnt really matter to me.

As well as a 2 more defensive ones like Akanji to replace Walker and one of Stones/Ake. We need 3 if both of these go.

There’s a lad called Rico Lewis. Don’t think he will cost much. He’s only 20 has forced his way in to his club side and his international side. His club side is managed by one of the best managers in the world so just maybe the lad has potential…. I think we should go for him. It may cost us a game now and again but in the long run he will be great value against most alternatives.

I’m

I can't think of many 'forced' January buys that turned out either particularly successful or good value.

By forced you mean due to injury? I just think we need more bodies, I think we are in a spiral we will struggle to get out of unless we bring players in to stop players having to play so many games due to others being injured.

going forward we need to increase the number of defenders, use subs and the academy more, and stop playing almost the full first team in league cup and easy FA cup and champs league matches.

This is the correct answer.

Instead of focusing on bringing in a right back, Akanji should be used in this position as he was you know… when we won the treble!

Bring in a new CB instead. One player that has impressed me when I’ve seen him play is Bastoni for inter.
Akanji was brilliant that season no denying it.

But so was Ake and Stones and they are both carrying injuries. It’s finding the balance as Akanji has had to play a lot and also picks up injuries. Finding how Josko and Rico fit in the system.

I’m a big fan of Akanji and he should be playing it’s just where.

I take back what I said.

I cant even watch Walker play anymore.

Please buy a DM AND RB in January... I feel the club simply wont though...

If City are serious about turning things around, a RB in Jan is a non-negotiable - it's just as (if not becoming more) important than another DM.

We're stuck with Walker for the next few weeks given all the injuries, but we cannot continue with him starting games come the new year if we want to salvage anything this season.
