Right back options

If we don't sign a top class right-back this summer, we won't have learned anything.

No right-back, no title-tilt.

Nunes will never be good enough for it.
I completely disagree. We have a very good squad at present regardless of whether we sign a right back or not.

Our learnings should prioritise that ...
1. We need a style that has Haaland in legitimate scoring positions. Last season was a joke in terms of how Haaland was deployed imo.
2. We need a high tempo style that is executed to precision. Last season was slow and full of errors.
3. We need CBs who can build up attacks from midfield but cam also get back fast for breaks. Last season this was so lazy in mind and body.
4. Our wide men need to cross properly or get into the box with menace or shoot with venom. Last season was tame and devoid of any decent crosses.
5. We need less mistakes in the full back position. It happened on the left and the right. Yes a full time RB would be nice bit kmo it's far from the top priority because hopefully the other weaknesses are addressed.

We need pace.stamina, skill, grit and composure in defence.
Nunes has the first 2 in abundance, and is relatively skilful.
Lewis has skill and composure.
Akanji has grit and composure.

If we can't get someone who checks every box, we are better off waiting.

We also simply don't have space for another non-homegrown player, now Bernardo is staying.

Livramento, MGW , Wharton next season then I guess. The HG brigade will have to wait another year

If we currently don't have space for another non-homegrown player, and there is no homegrown RB good enough attainable, the solution should be to move out one (or several) of the non-homegrown squad players we currently have to make room, not to ignore the obvious lack of a proper RB in the squad.

And of course we can get rid of one (or several) of our non-homegrown players if we need to. We just had a terrible season (by our high standards) and as a result all players can't expect that just having a contract means they will continue to have a nailed spot as one of our 17 non-homegrown players.
Almost all players can be moved on if needed, it's more a matter of how much it will cost the club. Best case scenario we get a decent fee and the player happily moves. Worst case scenario we loan one out paying some or most of his wages or do not register him.
Some on here might say "this is not Fifa, thats not how it works", but I would say that we have seen countless of examples of clubs forcing players out if they need to. And after a season like the one we just had, now is the time to be ruthless and make some tough decisions if needed to make room for reinforcements that will make a difference.

All just my opinion, of course. It just seems like an insane priority to me if we would not sign a starting RB because our backup GK or 4th/5th choice CM takes up a non-homegrown spot thats needed.

With that said, signing someone like Livramento would obviously make things a lot easier.

Gundogan or Akanji come to mind, neither had a great season, should be nowhere near first choice next season, older members of the squad. RB is an absolute must. We don't have a single real RB at the club.

We need to buy a right back simple as that .
I just don’t see how it is viable. We have four players who can play there and with ait Nouri bombing up the left side the rb position will really be more of a rcb role in a 3.

Nunes can do the bombing on role against the teams who sit in and akanji m, khusanov can do the rcb role comfortably and if we want an inverted option we have Lewis.

We have enough imo

Not even close. Nunes ability to run the flank and get passes into and across the face of goal became much more apparent end of season. Zinchenko was beating no one for pace down the flanks.

Yet when you watch the highlights of that Villa match Zinch beats Matty Cash to put a ball in numerous times...

Akanji played RB in the CL final and was just fine. I’d obviously prefer a quality right back, But I don’t think it’s that pressing.

You forgetting the two total fuck ups he made? One where he just passed it straight to Martinez but Ed saved him.

We need a proper RB

Only homegrown options for this position are Livramento or Hinshelwood. Both will be north of £75mill. We need to just make a forgein spot somehow, A right back is essential. We FINALLY have left back sorted. Lets not move the problem to right back.. we have money to buy a top right back. Hope club can make a foreign spot available somehow

Our major weakness last season was right back. Even worse than midfield. I’ve watched some games back in the big games we conceded chance after chance from right back Tottenham killed us down there the space was ridiculous.

Both players that played there could not track runners. Crystal Palace the same took advantage. Especially on counters

Right back needs to be sorted both full backs were questionable defensively but right back from watching games back was disastrous. Both full backs were good attacking but defensively questionable
