Right back options

Porro is fine. He'll never be elite but as a second choice fullback, it's good depth. The issues are the price. That's a lot of money to pay for what he would be and he'll be on very good money at Spurs.

We've been trimming big earners recently but we'll have to pay big money for contract renewals of key players and those who have earned themselves improved contracts, can't be giving this guy top wages if his status in the squad doesn't reflect it without it costing us dearly.

There is also the fact we had him and sold him and had a chance to bring him back and declined, if we deemed him not good enough twice, does bringing him back now, reflect the new lowered bar?
To be fair, we did have Walker and Cancelo at the time.

Awful season by Spurs but Porro is a really good right back. Would be happy with that.

A significant upgrade on Nunes in my opinion.
he is just concentrating on attack

maybe, we could mitigate it with Khusanov's pace ?

Signing Porro would be like having Cancelo back, great going forward & putting crosses in but hes a poor defender. Nunes had the backing of Pep when he was willing to play right back &stuck to his principles when most fans wanted Nunes sold

Nunes cannot continue to play 50 games a season, Khusanov gets the collywobbles as he approaches the opposition eighteen-yard line, and Lewis looks like he’s running through treacle when he has to chase back. Porro knows the League and would give us more options.

I totally agree about Nunes being asked to play 50+ games a season & it shows how much hes progressed that we now have cold sweats when he's unavailable as there's not much cover.

I just feel that Porro would be to much of a gamble & would expect to be more than just a stand in.

I haven't seen much of how Maresca sets up & I presume it will be similar to Pep's 4-3-3 but if he went to 3 at the back with Porro & O'Reilly/ Alt Niuri as wing backs then that would make sense

I think he's similar in set up to Guardiola but he'll have to evolve, too. I

Just by way of comparison, PSG have 3 players who played over 3,000 minutes this season. We had 6 players over 3,000 minutes and 3 of them (Haaland/Nunes/O'Reilly) were over 4,000 minutes! We're also playing in a far more physically demanding league, so it's little wonder that we're collectively running out of steam come the spring.

To avoid that, we need players who can do much more than 'stand in'.

We have chosen to compete for all four trophies and it comes with a heavy demand on the squad, especially when we have a couple of positions with no genuine cover.

Porro would get plenty of game time if he signed & would be behind Nunes in the pecking order at right back.

We won so much with Walker at RB who wasn't great going forward so I think Kushanov would be more than capable to cover Nunes especially with Gvardiol able to play CB.

Presuming this is our starting back line next season
Nunes - Khusanov - Guehi - Gvardiol

Then we could easily play
Khusanov - Dias - Gvardiol - O'Reilly

I think that choice is now unsustainable across multiple seasons and is detrimental to our chances of winning the League and Champions League together. I appreciate that winning breeds a winning mentality, but this squad now has sufficient experience of domestic cups, and we should now prioritise the bigger two trophies. That might be difficult for Maresca, who will want to prove himself a winner, but I hope he looks at the bigger picture and aims for back-to-back 'doubles'.

We have no idea whether he would be behind Nunes.

Perhaps, but I prefer Khusanov there only if it is to negate a particular threat. The new manager is going to have an extremely good squad from which to choose, so it's a question of how well he adapts to using them, and that includes Ait-Nouri and, should he sign, Porro.

I just think that the £50m being quoted could be spent on the midfield. Presuming Anderson is done & dusted, we still need at least another midfielder who can tackle & how much more would Tonali be

If we’re basically swapping Savinho for Porro, then it really doesn’t impact what can be spent on the midfield. I reckon we could stretch to another midfielder, but you might find that Rodri, Kovacic, Anderson, Gonzalez, Reijnders, and Nunes/O’Reilly suffices. Perhaps wait another season and add more, Wharton(?), once the highlighted leave.
