Johnson has had a decent season and being at Portsmouth could probably be tempted to come to us, and they'd be willing to sell. I think it's likely. However, I'm a little concerned that he may just be having a good season, and in reality we'd be buying a RB who is really not much better than what we have - I may be wrong though, but last season it was Micah who was in great form, and Johnson would not have been even considered an option. That said, he's got the nod over Micah at International level so could well be worth a go.
Modern RB has to be quick (Corluka's downfall) tall (I hate to see a full back beaten by a long ball over the top), well organised and always able to carry the ball and provide a wide option. I've heard this Angel Rangel of Swansea mentioned a few times but know nothing about him.
All in all, I'd have to say Johnson is the most realistic and probably improves what we have. Although he did play in midfield at the weekend and he does look a bit dodgy at times to me. IN an ideal world, Dani Alves or Sergis Ramos would be top of the list, but I think we have to be realistic and that probably means Johnson or even out of contract Lucas Neil (I hope not the latter though). Unless Hughes has had the scouts hard at work and has uncovered the next big thing.
