Rigsby's Last Stand

I've never understood why players just don't leave with a "goodbye and thanks to the fans who have supported me; just a shame it didn't work out for us." etc?

It just makes them all look petty and small.

Any private grievances should be just that, private.

Bellamy could show them a thing or two, which I didn't think I'd ever be saying!

Reading between the lines, Petrov is only really saying 'damn City, they used to be a retirememnt home for mediocre, perma injured hacks like myself but these days they can afford to be choosy'.

Fuck him.

I hope he has found 'trust' in Bolton.

The problem is that grievances aren't kept private at MCFC by either players or the manager. We, as fans, keep slagging players for talking in the press but the manager (both Hughes and Mancini) have been doing the same. The club needs to lead by example and not air it's dirty laundry in public as well. When players see the manager doing it, they're going to follow suit.

Ireland is the biggest example. Mancini comes out in the press saying he needs to get his head straight and then repeatedly mentions that he wants Stevie to go in the Milner deal although Stevie is quoted many times as saying he wants to stay and fight for his place. His reward for speaking passionately about the club is to be pushed into training with the reserves as his punishment for not doing as he's told by a coach (Platt) and not the manager. Once he finally agress to leave in the Milner deal, what did everyone expect would happen?

The guy is a human being who was completely mistreated by the club because of it's ambitions. It's a case of laying down with the dogs and waking up with fleas. If we want players to be respectful of the club, the club should be respectful to them. People go on about the money and shit but that makes no difference to these guys. They'll make close to the same money elsewhere but it does have a huge effect on their personal lives and their families when they are unceremoniously shipped out of the club after being promised big things on 4 and 5 year contracts. They essentially feel like they were lied to (which they were) so of course there is going to be bad blood.

Acting high and mighty by saying why can't they just leave and say thanks, just makes us sound petty. If it was so easy, why didn't the club come out and say the same things about Ireland or Dunne, or any of the other near 20 players we shipped out over the past 2 years? Respect is a 2 way street, so I expect further player slangings as long as the club act like players are game pieces to be played with and disposed of when no longer useful. We decided a whole bunch of players were useless to us but wouldn't allow them to join clubs where they could be competitive or make the same wages, only allowing them to move to clubs they didn't want to or only giving them a week or so to find a new club. Not right at all and guys like Marwood with his "remain professional because you are on a contract" can go fuck himself. Are those the same contracts that you forced other players out of in an unprofessional manner you hypocritical dick?

I agree about the treatment of Ireland ie putting him in the reserves was OTT and out of order. But I don't remember Mancini constantly saying that he wants Ireland to in the Milner deal? I don't remember him saying it once, correct me if I am wrong though...

First Mancini came out with this quote:

"Stephen Ireland is a good player but he has been here all his life and he needs to change," said Mancini.

"Sometimes it can happen that a player stays with the same squad for 15 years and plays well but a moment arrives when he needs to change.

"Now is time for him. I really think he can improve."

Then in the the days leading up to the closing of the deal and Mancini said:

Asked if the deal would involve Ireland, Mancini added: “I hope so.

Like I said, I don't begrudge any player that slags us when the club keeps doing this shit to them in the press. It was the samething with Bellamy. Mancini was quoted in the papers for weeks prior to the Bellamy interview saying he didn't think Bellamy would be in the 25. Then Bellamy comes out and basically lays the siutation bare as he sees it, basically that's he's perplexed after coming off a great year and being told he doesn't have a spot in the 25 the next year. Then he's ripped to shreds about being a giant no good unloyal cock. I think Bellamy was well within his rights to defend his name and make the situation apparently clear as it was abundantly clear that the club had no use for him but had no problem destroying his career by shipping him out of the country to play in Germany so he couldn't play for our rivals. That's just petty on our clubs part. And yes, I would have no problem with him going to our rivals. I want us to be the best because we beat the best, not because we tried to weaken our rivals with petty imature behavior regarding player's futures. It just shows a lack of tact.

Fair enough,

Personally I don't see anything wrong with Mancini's quotes, but that is just me. If Ireland was performing to a brilliant standard and we were bottom of the league, his loyalties may have been elseware, and he may have been the one saying "I hope I can leave, I want to improve" Obviously this is hypothetical, but it is just my opinion that it is maybe about time Clubs managed to treat players the way that players have been treating clubs for a number of years... It works both ways for me, usually the one who is under performing, be it the club, or the player, gets left behind...

I dont like petrov one bit. yes he was a good player for us but always had a chip on his shloulder e.g showing his name and number to the bench when he scored! TWAT

Just to play devil's advocate...

If it was Jo or Robinho who the manager was talking about... and put in the reserves, how would you feel?
