The music itself is just half-decent pop music. It's not terrible, and it's nothing groundbreaking and new either. She doesn't write it herself, but fairplay to her for somehow managing to make money for just singing karaoke and selling the records.

I remember when Rihanna was just an innocent 19 year old that bellydanced to pop/reggae beats. There was nothing wrong with what she was, but ever since the emergence of Lady Gaga, pop has turned ugly as some female artists desperately try to emulate her. Adele and Florence and the Machine (although not my favourites) are showing talent in areas that their peers just don't have at all. I would love pop music as much as I used to if it was just Adele, Gaga, Florence and the Machine and the occasional pop/rock band like Coldplay or OneRepublic. But this idea that pop has to be sexy or nothing has distorted peoples' views of the genre itself and the way that things "should be".
