I was at Morrisons in Heywood about an hour and a half ago and fuck all was happening then. There were about 8 or 9 young kids outside, all under 15 but that's nothing unusual for Morrisons.

Mrs Just left baths, police outside about 10 to 9 ish.

There was a post way back in this thread saying the riots were the result of 30 years of liberalism and political correctness but that couldn't be further from the truth, if anything its the result of 30 years of neo-liberalism, the conscious efforts of a section of British society to re-write the social contract for the benefit of the wealthy few and the promotion of the mindset that "there is no such thing as society."

I don't condone the rioters, who are for the most part only succeeding in damaging their own communities, but blaming this on opportunism and the criminality of "lazy scrotes" is completely missing the bigger picture and the questions this raises about the state of western consumer society in general (remember this happened in France too 5 or 6 years ago).

Empty violence in response to a vacuous system and meaningless future.
