Starting each post with "of course" adds no credence to it.
As I say, your argument suggests everything is political including paedos and killers. But this situation in not politically motivated and the kids doing this are scum. Nothing more and your middle class self flagulation is simply cringeworthy. Society hasn't failed them. They have failed society.
They are opportunistic thieves. That is all.
Of course (and I use it again because, funnily enough, your posts invite it. Lowest common denominator is now springing to mind) they are opportunistic thieves. Why? Because that is all they know.
Could see this panning out 30 years ago when the politicians then started a seemingly deliberate attempt to reward those who 'could' whilst ripping the rest to fook.
I could see it panning out 40 years ago, when kids were forced into comprehensive schools that served no one's interest, neither the academic ones or the disinterested ones. Before that, the education system offered quite a bit of hope to those who wanted a future.
I could see it panning out when firms were encouraged to outsource jobs to India instead of being required to provide jobs to their own citizens. Very few British undergraduates now study Computing because it's pointless, as the jobs that used to be there for them have gone to India.
We've continued to encourage lower standards in society and not supported the people who refuse to lower their own. We've been let down by politicians of all parties and business leaders. Thatcher got things wrong as all politicians have done but you can't lay all the blame on her. She was actually one of the few politicians that encouraged and enabled people to take control of their lives instead of just offering platitudes and meaningless initiatives.
This is nothing to do with Cameron and Clegg - it's been going on for years and as a silent majority we've been supine about defending the good bits of our society and sense of community from those who don't care about it. We've sat back and allowed the state to take us to places where we shouldn't be.
Like many others i was a bit cynical about 'Big Society' but it's what we need. Many communities, Muslim, Sikh, Jewish and others, already practice it and take responsibility for themselves. They encourage their children to get on, take advantage of education and work hard for the things they want.
The one good thing that may come out of the last few days is that we see that sort of attitude spreading.
