Sad news to hear of the passing of former blue Barney Daniels this week who sadly passed away aged 74.

Signed by Tony Book he would make his blues debut in a 1-0 home win over Derby County curtesy of a Colin Bell strike on 6th February 1974, going on to appear 16 times between 1973 & 1975 including hitting two goals in a 4-1 win over Leicester City during November 1974. Barney would leave Maine Road in the summer of 1975 to become Chester City’s then record singing and duly hit a spectacular 25 yarder strike on his debut.

Sending condolences to Charlene and all his family and friends at this difficult time.

RIP Barney

That's sad news. He coached at my kids' school, where my ex also worked, so she knew him. We bumped into him in Asda one day and she introduced me. Then he turned up regularly as our relief postman, plus I used to bump into him regularly in the now defunct Roach Bank pub in Pilsworth.

His real name was actually Bernard.

And started his career just outside the city. Didn’t he cost us £2k from Ashton United?

We did indeed sign him from Ashton Utd. He’d actually been on the books at the rags as a youngster but was released from there without a sniff of getting close to the first team.
I was at that Leicester game when it looked like he’d ‘arrived’. RIP Barney.
