I’m so saddened to report the passing of Bill Lyons who finally lost his battle with Motor Neurone Disease yesterday.

Bill was a true legend as I’m sure many on here will testify.

It was my honour to do many trips with him, In particularly European aways where we would room together.

So many brilliant memories of happy times.

Sleep well and rest in peace Bill.

Thoughts with Jeanie, Martin, Jess, Jenna and the whole family.

I am aware that, at Bill’s request, they do want to keep things private.

That's such a shame, really sorry to hear that. Met him several times in the Waldorf pre match and he was always an absolute gentleman. Very kind too.
Always the life and soul of the party, it was an absolute pleasure to know him.
Thoughts are with his family, he adored all of them.

I am in tears over this. RIP Bill (@deNiro) the very first BlueMooner I met outside the virtual.
He and Jeannie and Jess were so kind to me on European trips. He even introduced me to @Ric our illustrious leader. A lovely, lovely man. He will be sadly missed.
RIP Bill, condolences to your family and friends. A true legend.

Bill was a true Bluemoon legend.
I sat next to him and his family about 15 years ago at the JJB Stadium when City played Wigan Athletic.
I know he had been ill for a number of years with MND , and I noticed he hadn't posted on BM for a few months.
All I can say is that I hope you enjoy watching City win lots more trophies from The Stand With No Name.
R.I .P BILL.

I know we're not really supposed to mention it on here anymore because the circumstances of it ended up being all mysterious, but my clearest, most resonant memory of Bill came from the night The Fixer incident happened. While the rest of us were beside ourselves and trying to figure out what was going on, Bill immediately jumped in the car with his daughter and drove through the night to be with a man he thought was in desperate need of company. I don't really know what happened after that, but Bill jumping in his car without a second thought to drive miles to comfort a complete stranger spoke volumes about the guy he was.

I met him a few times on Bluemoon meet-ups down the years, mainly between 2010 and 2012. I think the last time I saw him was the day the photo below was taken in the Waldorf in 2012. Very happy times to be a Blue, they were, but also very sad times with Sam (GSC) and Sue (Bluebird) going in the same summer. Was so sorry to see that he'd been diagnosed with MND. Even more sorry to find this out. At least he's seen us win the fucking lot, so I'll repeat now what he said the day of Sam's funeral 12 years ago, about a week before this photo was taken: "One of the last things Sam witnessed was us winning the league, he died a champion."
