RIP Denis Law

The back heel gave me one of my finest moments as a fan. King Colin trying to slap some sense into him for not celebrating after it was almost as good. RIP Denis. One of the true greats.
The first two to congratulate Denis were Colin and Francis.

The shot of the three of them together is a lorry load in itself.

Great player and a good man, R.I. P.

His backheel goal was/is a forever source of glee to City supporters but he was never proud of it, so to single that out at this sad time is putting City v u****d rivalry above celebrating the player himself. If God likes football he won't dwell on that one when Denis gets to the pearly gates.

I'd be about ten that season he came back. At that age, football was less tribal I feel and I remember being happy he was a City player. I think Coventry at home was on MOTD when he scored and Frannie carried him over his shoulder. Wolves League Cup final was a disappointment but then came the back heel. Players weren't on the wages of today and I think most were more genuine because of it. Respected not only both sides of Manchester but both sides of the border as well. Tributes are well deserved regardless of any media leanings. RIP sir.

An artist and master of his craft. Made the game look so simple. Scored in my first match, 51 years ago. RIP. Dennis.

Represented both clubs with dignity and honour. It's a shame how he was shown the door at United but that was City's gain. I remember the game in 1974 at Old Trafford when he scored. It was the only time I can remember that he didn't raise his arm. He went off straight afterwards and never played a league game again. We Mancs are lucky that we have had so many great players down the years and now another link with that era has gone. RIP.

I played in a few Football Aid games at the Etihad and Denis was the patron of the charity
Before one match, all the players were stood in reception waiting to be taken to the changing rooms and Denis appeared as he'd watched the morning game
He walked round everybody, shook their hand and thanked them for supporting the charity

A terrific footballer and a lovely man

Edit. For a time he worked as a rep for Franny Lee's paper company

Mrs Vienna's Uncle Jack owned a car repair shop and had a couple of petroleum pumps as well.

One day, while serving a customer, a car pulled in, and Jack told the driver that he’d be with him in a few minutes.

The driver asked Uncle Jack if he knew who he was, but Jack, having no interest in football, didn’t have the foggiest.

It was Denis Law.
