After just spending 30 horrendous minutes in JD Sports and noticing the absolute minimum you need to spend for some half decent trainers is 100 quid! I got to wondering exactly how screwed our country is price wise. We all know the biggies, highest leccy/gas charges in Europe, Water (it should be this country's oil, thanks Thatcher) Council Tax, Petrol, Insurance, House prices.. obviously I could go on. But how about the relatively under the radar rip-offs that we all kinda accept?

The match..... rip-off
Cinema.......rip-off
TV package.....rip-off

To a degree I guess, again, they are fairly well known. But how about...

A pie. Greenhalches bakery £3.50! Rip-off
Small Bottle of Pepsi. £1.70.... Rip-off
A placcy bag at Tesco.... 40p. Rip-off
A car service.... £200/300 minum. Rip-off
Hair cut.... £10/20. Rip-off
New boiler. £3000/4000. Half a day's work. Rip-off
Windows cleaned, average semi... £8/10.... rip-off
New Roof. £8/10k. Rip-off
X Box Game. (Download) £60/70 Rip-off
Taxi to airport.... name your price... Rip-off
Train fare say Manc/London.... Rip-off
Chocolate bar £1/1.50 Rip-off

Obviously I could go on. Feel free to list more or indeed justify WHY a plasterer can earn more than a doctor! It obviously points to broader issues though. We don't say NOOOOO enough in this country. We don't get organised and plan to boycot set stores enough. We could have a monthly lottery and pull a Rip-off business out that hat and say This month, nobody is taking their business to Tesco or Halfords or Tui etc. Maybe theres other tactics we could use as the absolutely hammered consumer. Enough surely is enough?

I will endorse the view that a good plasterer is worth his weight in gold, not board skimmers of course but proper browning/bonding/carlite & mouldings craftsmen.

Oh don't get me wrong. Skilled job, not to be sniffed at but a mate of mine earns 75k a year!!! A junior doctor has done GCSES, A LEVELS, DEGREE, POST GRAD and Specislism placements for upto 10 years wracking up into 100k in student loans and their job brings monumental responsibility!

He should have taken up plastering.

Ha. Its my mate who's a plasterer. Good lad, wadded! I suspect many doctors would say just that, all very well i suppose, until you fall ill and there's nobody to cure you cos there all covered in alabaster dust
Ever tried the internet to get cheaper prices? Any idea what Phil’s wristsock is about?

It's a function of wanting all of the workforce to be well paid as well as high rents, energy prices etc. There was always going to be some left behind. I don't know where you shop but £1.75 for a Pepsi? If your barber is getting £15/hour say, how is £10-£20 for a cut a rip off? Same with the windows.

FYI, Tesco and most of the supermarkets work on a profit margin of around 4%-5%.

Most of these aren't a rip off, they're just the actual price. Things feel more expensive because wage growth has stagnated since the early 2010s and we've exhausted the benefits of globalisation reducing the cost of production.

Most costs are miles above the price of inflation.

Look at a ticket to watch a Premier League game. It’s miles more relatively to what it was in past decades. Same for cinema prices.

Just moved house in a exchange, while I got a removal cheap through a mate the other tennant got the cheapest quote of £500.it took less than 2 hours.
Personally I couldn't look someone in the eye asking for £500 to move a bit of furniture but some people are right cheeky bastard's.

All the family's clothes now come from Vinted. Saved us a fortune.

Other rip offs:- coffee shops, footy shirts (obviously), school uniform,
