Rip-off Britain

Just been back to the uk & with the exchange rate it was far more expensive than Perth WA. When you consider cost of housing & wages, you guys are doing it tough. No wonder everyone’s angry.

Just to add, nowhere else in the world is there 17 different shades of tarmac on the pavement & wtf happened to the roads.
Ha. Funny you should say that. The Council subbed 'tradesmen' came round to sort our pavements on our council estate. Day 1 they stuck tape on every curb and drain cover. Day two, they re stuck the tape on that had been blown off, or ripped off by the local bellends, then they emptied a barrel of what looked like sloppy tar (might have been mollasas or the clean up sludge from Chernobyl) and skimmed it over the present surface leaving lumps, bumps and indentations and a different colour to the road. Then they did what all quality tradesmen do... fkucked off. We still have bolloxed paving and now the estate looks like a patchwork quilt. I wonder what those highly trained operatives are on per hour! Still, on the brightside, the Mrs enjoyed the kids trampling that shhit over the carpet, that was a fun afternoon!

Thing is we are often told that manufacturing of stuff like clothes and shoes is outsourced to other countries to reduce production costs. Are these savings passed on to the buyer?

After just spending 30 horrendous minutes in JD Sports and noticing the absolute minimum you need to spend for some half decent trainers is 100 quid! I got to wondering exactly how screwed our country is price wise. We all know the biggies, highest leccy/gas charges in Europe, Water (it should be this country's oil, thanks Thatcher) Council Tax, Petrol, Insurance, House prices.. obviously I could go on. But how about the relatively under the radar rip-offs that we all kinda accept?

The match..... rip-off
Cinema.......rip-off
TV package.....rip-off

Obviously I could go on. Feel free to list more or indeed justify WHY a plasterer can earn more than a doctor! It obviously points to broader issues though. We don't say NOOOOO enough in this country. We don't get organised and plan to boycot set stores enough. We could have a monthly lottery and pull a Rip-off business out that hat and say This month, nobody is taking their business to Tesco or Halfords or Tui etc. Maybe theres other tactics we could use as the absolutely hammered consumer. Enough surely is enough?
Coffee shops, private parking, Holiday companies. Eating out, takeaways etc..Concert tickets. One of the reasons the pandemic was probably manufactured. The robbing, milking sods..

The biggest rip of is mortgages 25/30 to pay off and at the end you’ve paid for it twice over.

Hard to call coffee a rip-off, enough people seem daft enough to spend a fiver on coffee so they'll keep charging it. Last place I worked at provided free tea, coffee and milk in the kitchen so you could make your own but I was surprised how many people went in the canteen and paid for a starbucks coffee to bring back to their desks.
What IS a rip-off is water bills !! Bad enough in the North West but my partner's niece who lives near Oxford has just had her bill increased by over £300 per MONTH!!
Fucking hell she must be a dirty cow.

I absolutely dread the time I will probably end up back in the UK. So much of it makes no sense whatsoever. Bang centre of town rent here is 500 quid - including all bills except internet. Then the internet 1000mbps up and down is about 15 quid a month. Oh and and in a tv package with every single prem game no matter the time at an eye watering 7 quid equivalent.

How the UK has fallen behind Eastern/Central Europe in infrastructure and living is a travesty.

Birthday Cards.... Rip-off
Drinks in pubs......Rip-off
Fish and Chips.....Rip-off
Amusement parks Rip-off
Funerals........... Rip-off
Cremations....... Rip-off (word of warning to anyone organising one, they charge you for the coffin... A GREAT AMOUNT. But don't burn it. I wonder how many times those boxes get re-used and charged for every time. You effectively get charged a coffin rental fee for a few hours at 100s and 100s of pounds.. RIP-OFF

We are trying a new idea in this country whereby we just dont bother fixing the roads or the drains,
it saves a lot on Materials & Labour, also the numerous huge potholes have the added effect of slowing everyone down which is much safer, and obviously while the roads are all underwater due to the lack of drain maintainance there is not as much water in the rivers to swamp all the new houses built in the flood areas, quite frankly its genius :-(

In France visiting a couple of theme parks, Puy Du Fou and Futurescope, UK theme parks are such a rip off in comparison. These all close at 11pm so can get on most rides, see all the shows and food is comparable to normal high street takeaways. Bill for me and my 3 kids for a ( large) burger, fries, drink and dessert came to 28 quid. A single 'Vampyre' burger meal at Chessington costs 21 quid.
