RIP

I was working as a sous chef on the day in a restaurant on Deansgate . I finished my shift late afternoon and made my way up Market Street towards the gardens to catch my bus home .
As I was walking towards Debenhams/Lewis's a large crowd had congregated in front of the large screen that use to be on the side/corner of the building . Everyone was silent , watching the events at Hillsborough unfold .
I remember standing there for quite a while watching in disbelief .
R.I.P.

Remember it all too well. We got done 4-0 at Blackburn, the game when Taggart played at right back and had a shocker. At first, a copper stood behind us on the terraces at Ewood told us "the Scousers are rioting at the semi final, they've invaded the pitch".
The result of a vital promotion match soon faded into insignificance though, as we realised the truth of what was happening at Hillsborough.
Didn't Liverpool knock us out of the cup in the previous round? It could have been us, or, indeed, any football fan.
It was a very silent and solemn train ride back to Victoria.
I was 18 at the time and supposed to go to a house party across the road that night, on a promise with a decent looking bird, but I didn't even bother. I was knocked sick by the sight of what happened and stayed in.
RIP to the 96, and may their families one day find some peace and closure.
