This one is a big surprise to me, he was always touted as one of the most promising of our academy.

NURNBERG SWOOP FOR MAK

Nurnberg have signed Slovakian youngster Robert Mak for an undisclosed fee from Manchester City.

The 19-year-old, who has spent the last five years in England, has signed a three-year contract with the Bundesliga club, where he is expected to push for a place in the first team.

"Robbie is extremely quick as well as both technically and tactically well-educated," said Nurnberg's director of sport Martin Bader on his club's website.

"He wants to make the grade in the Bundesliga and the fact he has chosen to join us shows that young players see good prospects at Nurnberg."

Mak received advice from his two compatriots Marek Mintal and Robert Vittek, who have both shone for Nurnberg in recent years.

"Of course I know about Nurnberg - they have always been a big club for us Slovakians thanks to Marek Mintal and Robert Vittek," said the Slovakia Under-21 international.

"Marek advised me to move to Nurnberg and I am looking forward to it."

Hopefully it will include a sell on clause in his contract. I full expect this kid to actually be a success and play for his country one day.

Good move for him, with Ball and Nimely ahead of him in the younger part of the squad he wasn't going to get much chance of breaking through at City.

I think this is clear evidence that the team viewed young Robbie as being at least behind Nimley, Guidetti, and Ball. Good luck to the lad at Nurnberg, as the article mentioned they've done well with his compatriots in the recent past.

yes thats my take on it as well... it will be hard to get first team experience with us in the future and it will take someone rare to make it... I just wish him all the best...!!!

Bit gutted about this one myself. Thought he'd pushed on after looking a little lightweight a few years ago. Best of luck to him.

Am very suprised at this news ....... thought he was one of our better prospects ....... full of suprises this club of ours , aren't they?

so true... so true... but to be realistic he really is way down the pecking order to get experience with us... reserves arent good enough if you want to develop at a young age... but he seemed to really know where the goal is and scoring alot in all competitions for us

Wonder what the fee was? Undisclosed? Why? Because it's fuck all and it's embarrassing that we give our kids away? Or because it was a decent wedge, and the German club don't want anyone to know how much they've spent on an unproven youngster?

Bit of a shame he didn't even get a try out in the first team. I do like to see the academy boys get a shot at least. If they can't cut it then fair enough, get rid.

Why does it have to be a question if he can't cut it?

Maybe the kid prefers to be playing first team football and a permanent move rather than a loan deal.

Equally maybe City do want to keep him, but are putting the best interests of the player first.

Whatever the reason why he has moved on I wish him the best of luck.
